Description

Kelly has tried every shade and every hairstyle, some with more success than others. Now, with her slimmed-down physique, she has chosen to grow her hair long and dye it purple... but does it suit her?

First, let's take a look at the style. Kelly has a face shape that is more wide than long, so the longer hair works to soften up her jawline. The soft waves compliment the roundness in her face while the middle parting with the extra bit of volume does a great job of adding height to her small forehead. So far, so good Kelly!

Next, let's look at the color. Underneath the violet is a platinum blonde, which would have looked nice with her complexion. Unfortunately, she has chosen a washed-out lilac hue instead. Kelly has the edgy style to pull off purple, pink or even blue hair, but it still has to be done right. Maybe Kelly was waiting for the purple to wash out rather than bleaching it out, hence this color disaster. In any case, the violet is looking lackluster.

This medium length hairdo is blow-waved to add plenty of body and width making it a great hairstyle to balance out a long face. This simple style is easy to manage with regular trims every 4-6 weeks to prevent split ends maintaining a healthy look and feel.

What do you think of her new look? Is it interesting or immature?

Styling Steps

1. Apply Mousse

step 1

Apply styling mousse to damp hair, using your palm as a measuring guide, and evenly distribute it along the hair shaft. Styling mousse will add hold and can help achieve better results.

2. Use a Large Radial Brush

step 2

A large radial brush is usually used on long straight hair types or to smooth out wavy or curly hair textures. When selecting a radial brush, always use one with a pure bristle as this will not tear or damage the hair.

3. Blow-dry the Back Under

step 3

To blow-dry under, start at the nape/back and place your brush under the section of hair close to the nape. With the dryer held up over the hair, pull the brush from the roots and continue to the mid length's, keeping the blow-dryer following over the top. Once you reach the ends, curve them under. Repeat this step until the section is completely dry.

4. Blow-dry the Sides Under

step 4

To blow-dry the sides, take out a small section of hair from the front and clip the rest of the hair away. Next, place the brush under the section and then pull the brush and hair forward around your face (this curving motion creates body). Place the hair-dryer on top of the brush until you reach the ends and then turn the ends under. Repeat until dry.

5. Blow-dry Left Side Back

step 5

Take a section of your hair from your ear to your temple that is the same diameter as the brush. Place your brush on top of the hair starting at the roots and pull the hair slowly in a backward direction with your blow-dryer following in front. Be sure the section is dry and then repeat the step on a new section of hair directly behind.

6. Blow-dry Right Side Back

step 6

Take a section of your hair from your ear to your temple that is the same diameter as the brush. Place your brush on top of the hair starting at the roots and pull the hair slowly in a backward direction with your blow-dryer following in front. Be sure the section is dry and then repeat the step on a new section of hair directly behind.

7. Piece the Ends Using Wax

step 7

Apply a small amount of wax to your fingertips and then lightly piece and pinch the ends of your hair.

8. Apply Smoothing Shine

step 8

Apply a very small amount of smoothing shine to the palms of your hands and then run it through the mid-lengths and ends of your hair. Be careful not to add any to the roots or a large amount to any section of the hair as smoothing shine can be very heavy on the hair, weighing it down and making it appear oily.

9. Apply Hairspray

step 9

To finish, apply a minimal amount of hairspray from an arms length distance to the top, sides and back. Take care not to use too much or you will end up with a white, flaky residue which looks like dandruff.
