Description

Layers are sliced all through the sides and back of these thick locks then blow-dried perfectly to smooth down the top while adding texture to the ends. This simple yet sassy 'do is perfect for those with medium to thick hair and best suited to frame an oval or heart shaped face. Product is needed to smooth pokey or coarse hair into place.

Our model flaunts a striking shag cut here with fabulous results. This choppy-cut ‘do gives her a rocker chick look while showcasing her best features. She has a triangular shaped face which means she has a wide, broad forehead and dainty and defined cheek chin area. Styles that add bulk around the chin and neck area are ideal for this face shape, as are styles with bangs that provide some forehead coverage and frame the eyes. Our model’s layered bangs highlight her intense eyes well while the rest of the layers in her hair add movement to her thick, coarse locks. This 'do is ideal for ladies who have natural wave/ texture in their hair and a long or narrow face shape.

Our model is working a gorgeous auburn brown hair color here with fabulous results. This tone flatters her cool, fair complexion nicely while making her dark eyes the center of attention. Highlights have been added to the ends which shows off her cut nicely, while the copper tips add a chic touch to her 'do and flatters her complexion. This is a lovely color combo that adds interest to plain brunette locks.

Styling Steps

1. Apply Moisturizer

Moisturizer

Apply a small amount of hair moisturizer to the palm of your hand and distribute it evenly through the mid-lengths and the ends. Moisturizer will help your hair to maintain good condition and protect your strands from heat as you style.

2. Use a Small Radial Brush

Brushsmall

A small radial brush is used on shorter hair types to add more body or in longer hair types to create curl. When selecting a radial brush, always use one with a pure bristle as this will not tear or damage the hair.

3. Blow-dry Bangs Forward

Bangsforwardbdry

When blow-drying your bangs forward, clip your hair back leaving only your bangs out. Position your bangs evenly in your brush, taking the hair in a forward direction. Blow-dry from roots to ends, keeping the tension consistent, and evenly distribute heat over the whole section of hair that you are working on. Repeat until the hair is dry. This will stop any frizz that may occur.

4. Use a Blow-dryer to Kick Out the Back

Backflicks

Starting at the nape/back of the hair, place your brush on top of the section and blow-dryer down starting from the roots and using tension as you go. Next, place the blow-dryer underneath the hair and continue to blow-dry the ends out. Make sure to follow the brush with the blow-dryer in an outwards direction. If you like fuller flicks, hold the ends out and roll them up into the brush and apply the heat for longer.

5. Use a Blow-dryer to Kick Out the Sides

Sidesflicks

To blow-dry the sides, take out your first sections from the front and clip the rest of the hair up. Place your brush on top of the section, and starting from the roots, blow-dry down using tension as you go. Next, place the blow-dryer underneath the hair and continue to blow-dry the ends out. Continue this step until the hair is dry.

6. Blow-dry the Crown

Crown

To blow-dry the crown/top sections, take a section of hair no bigger than the diameter of the brush and blow-dry the hair placing the brush under the section of hair. With your blow-dryer in front of the brush, follow the brush in an upwards direction at the roots and an outwards position at the ends for volume and softness. Continue until the section is dry.

7. Blow-dry Left Side Forward

Sidesforwardleft

Take a section of your hair from your ear to your temple the same diameter as the brush. Place your brush underneath the hair starting at the roots and pull the hair slowly in a forward and downward direction with your blow-dryer above. Be sure the section is dry and then repeat the step on a new section of hair directly above.

8. Blow-dry Right Side Forward

Sidesforwardright

Take a section of your hair from your ear to your temple that is the same diameter as the brush. Place your brush underneath the hair starting at the roots and pull the hair slowly in a forward and downward direction with your blow-dryer above. Be sure the section is dry and then repeat the step on a new section of hair directly above.

9. Lift Roots Using Moulding Cream

Toplifting

Apply some moulding cream to your fingertips and then rub it into your roots while lifting your strands for added body. Be sure not to use too much moulding cream at the roots as this can result in a glugy and thick uncomfortable feel.

10. Style Sides Down Using Moulding Cream

Sidesdown

Using a small amount of moulding cream, work it through the mid-lengths and ends in a downward motion. For added texture, pinch the ends as you go sparingly.
