Description

Layers are jagged cut around the back and sides of this dark brown 'do making it easy to style out with soft flicks for shape and texture. The top is smoothed over to the side to soften the forehead and makes this hairdo perfect to frame a long face. This is a great look for any occasion and needs a little product to pinch through the ends.

Melanie Paxson looks gorgeous here in a short curly bob that creates the perfect frame for her face. Melanie has a heart-shaped face that benefits from this layered style that shows off her high cheekbones and dainty chin area. The deep side part looks great with her small forehead and offsets her jawline to create a more oval face shape. This hairstyle also brings the focus to her big brown eyes.

Melanie is a natural brunette and has a warm skin tone and brown eyes to match. The golden undertones of her complexion work well with this rich shade of chocolate brown hair, which also intensifies her eye color too. Ladies with medium to dark skin tones that have warm or golden undertones can pull off this hair color the best.

Melanie Paxson is an American actress. She is known for her roles in Cupid, Happy Family and Notes from the Underbelly.

Styling Steps

1. Apply Mousse

Placeholder articles

Apply styling mousse to damp hair, using your palm as a measuring guide, and evenly distribute it along the hair shaft. Styling mousse will add hold and can help achieve better results.

2. Part to the Right

Placeholder articles

Using the corner of your comb and standing in front of a mirror find the middle of your right eye and then drag the comb straight up slowly until you reach your hairline and then continue back in a straight manner to achieve an even right part. A side part is great for longer face shapes because it creates the illusion of width.

3. Use a Medium Radial Brush

Placeholder articles

A medium radial brush is used on medium to long hair types to smooth out wavy or curly hair textures or to add body to straight hair. When selecting a radial brush, always use one with a pure bristle as this will not tear or damage the hair.

4. Blow-dry Straight Back

Placeholder articles

Using your brush, blow-dry in small sections starting from the nape/back. Tilting your head forward, place the brush an inch below the roots to hold them taut and aim the dryer above the brush for a few seconds before continuing to the ends.

5. Blow-dry Straight on the Sides

Placeholder articles

Using your brush, blow-dry in small sections starting from the sides. Tilting your head forward, place the brush an inch below the roots to hold them taut and aim the dryer above the brush for a few seconds before continuing to the ends. Repeat this step on a new section directly above the dry one.

6. Blow-dry Hair Under to the Left

Placeholder articles

Take a section of your hair no wider than the diameter of your brush. Place your brush under and at the roots of your section. Then with your blow-dryer above, drag the brush up through the mid-lengths and ends of the hair following with your blow-dryer and pulling the hair to the left. Repeat until your hair is completely dry.

7. Use a Large Curling Iron

Placeholder articles

A large curling iron is used to create large soft curls and can be used to add body.

8. Curl Mid-lengths and Ends with a Curling Iron

Placeholder articles

Take a small section of hair and place the ends at the base of your curling iron barrel and then wrap the hair up around the barrel until you reach your mid-lengths. Hold the hair for 5 to 10 seconds and then release the hair by unwinding the strands backwards.

9. Piece the Ends Using Wax

Placeholder articles

Apply a small amount of wax to your fingertips and then lightly piece and pinch the ends of your hair.

10. Apply Hairspray

Placeholder articles

To finish, apply a minimal amount of hairspray from an arms length distance to the top, sides and back. Take care not to use too much or you will end up with a white, flaky residue which looks like dandruff.
