Mary J Blige Short Straight Light Brunette Hairstyle with Light Blonde Highlights- Visual Story

Description

Mary J. Blige knows how to work blonde hair and a dark skin tone with ease. When it comes to her makeup, she goes for full on dramatic eye makeup and glam lips to match. If you want to look as fabulous as Mary J. Blige, start by using silver, charcoal grey and black eye shadow to create a smoky eye. Add some fake lashes like Mary J. too if you want an extra sexy look. Highlight the apples of your cheeks with a neutral blush and finish this look off with a earthy brown-pink lipstick.

Ladies with dark complexions and blonde hair can pull off brighter lipstick shades too, so don’t be afraid to experiment with rich berry shades and reds.

The sides and back of this highlighted 'do are tapered into the head, while the top is jagged cut and left long enough to give the over-all look plenty of height and shape. This formal hairstyle is best suited to complement a round face and great for any day or night occasion.

Styling Steps

1. Apply Mousse

step 1

Apply styling mousse to damp hair, using your palm as a measuring guide, and evenly distribute it along the hair shaft. Styling mousse will add hold and can help achieve better results.

2. Use a Medium Radial Brush

step 2

A medium radial brush is used on medium to long hair types to smooth out wavy or curly hair textures or to add body to straight hair. When selecting a radial brush, always use one with a pure bristle as this will not tear or damage the hair.

3. Blow-dry Straight Back

step 3

Using your brush, blow-dry in small sections starting from the nape/back. Tilting your head forward, place the brush an inch below the roots to hold them taut and aim the dryer above the brush for a few seconds before continuing to the ends.

4. Blow-dry Straight on the Sides

step 4

Using your brush, blow-dry in small sections starting from the sides. Tilting your head forward, place the brush an inch below the roots to hold them taut and aim the dryer above the brush for a few seconds before continuing to the ends. Repeat this step on a new section directly above the dry one.

5. Blow-dry the Crown

step 5

To blow-dry the crown/top sections, take a section of hair no bigger than the diameter of the brush and blow-dry the hair placing the brush under the section of hair. With your blow-dryer in front of the brush, follow the brush in an upwards direction at the roots and an outwards position at the ends for volume and softness. Continue until the section is dry.

6. Blow-dry the Top Section Back

step 6

To blow-dry the top section back you will need to take your brush and firstly make sure that the section is no wider than the diameter of the brush. Next, place your brush on top of your head and under your section. Using your blow-dryer on a medium setting, blow-dry your hair from the roots, slowly lifting your hair up and working your way to the ends. Make sure to keep the blow-dryer in front of the brush at all times. Continue this step until the top section is completely dry.

7. Tease Hair

step 7

Pick up a small selection of hair from your mid section no bigger than your tail comb. Place your comb at the roots and then comb up and down until the hair is standing up by itself. Continue to the crown and finish at the sides. Repeat this step if you require more volume.

8. Apply Hairspray

step 8

To finish, apply a minimal amount of hairspray from an arms length distance to the top, sides and back. Take care not to use too much or you will end up with a white, flaky residue which looks like dandruff.
