Description

Large curls are added to the sides and back of this style to give this look movement and tons of shape. This gorgeous 'do is easy to re-create with the right tools and needs product for hold. Regular trims will also help maintain a healthy look and feel by preventing split ends.

Our model has strong facial features and an angular jawline, which is nicely complimented by her curled tresses here. Having an oblong face shape, she has a high forehead to contend with and an overall vertical look to her face. Voluminous hairstyles that have lots of body and volume around the cheeks, jaw and neck area are ideal for her as they balance out her face shape the best by adding width. The layered ends give her medium-fine hair a thicker appearance. She would look great in bangs as it would give her high forehead some coverage, however the slightly off-center part and side-swept fringe is working well for her too.

Our model has a fair, warm skin tone and light green eyes. This coloring is best paired with golden blondes and browns, but it is also possible for ladies with this complexion and eye color to wear caramel shades too. Here, she goes for a light champagne blonde base with subtle highlights all over that gives her hair a natural looking finish. This color brightens up her complexion and gives her an all-over warm glow while adding depth and dimension to her locks. Regular color touch ups are needed to keep this blonde looking fresh and bright.

Styling Steps

1. Apply Mousse

Mousse

Apply styling mousse to damp hair, using your palm as a measuring guide, and evenly distribute it along the hair shaft. Styling mousse will add hold and can help achieve better results.

2. Part to the Right

Partright

Using the corner of your comb and standing in front of a mirror find the middle of your right eye and then drag the comb straight up slowly until you reach your hairline and then continue back in a straight manner to achieve an even right part. A side part is great for longer face shapes because it creates the illusion of width.

3. Use a Large Radial Brush

Brushlarge

A large radial brush is usually used on long straight hair types or to smooth out wavy or curly hair textures. When selecting a radial brush, always use one with a pure bristle as this will not tear or damage the hair.

4. Use a Blow-dryer to Kick Out the Back

Backflicks

Starting at the nape/back of the hair, place your brush on top of the section and blow-dryer down starting from the roots and using tension as you go. Next, place the blow-dryer underneath the hair and continue to blow-dry the ends out. Make sure to follow the brush with the blow-dryer in an outwards direction. If you like fuller flicks, hold the ends out and roll them up into the brush and apply the heat for longer.

5. Use a Blow-dryer to Kick Out the Sides

Sidesflicks

To blow-dry the sides, take out your first sections from the front and clip the rest of the hair up. Place your brush on top of the section, and starting from the roots, blow-dry down using tension as you go. Next, place the blow-dryer underneath the hair and continue to blow-dry the ends out. Continue this step until the hair is dry.

6. Blow-dry the Crown

Crown

To blow-dry the crown/top sections, take a section of hair no bigger than the diameter of the brush and blow-dry the hair placing the brush under the section of hair. With your blow-dryer in front of the brush, follow the brush in an upwards direction at the roots and an outwards position at the ends for volume and softness. Continue until the section is dry.

7. Blow-dry the Top Section Back

Backtop

To blow-dry the top section back you will need to take your brush and firstly make sure that the section is no wider than the diameter of the brush. Next, place your brush on top of your head and under your section. Using your blow-dryer on a medium setting, blow-dry your hair from the roots, slowly lifting your hair up and working your way to the ends. Make sure to keep the blow-dryer in front of the brush at all times. Continue this step until the top section is completely dry.

8. Use Large Hot Rollers

Largehotroller

A large hot roller is used to give your hair a larger curl and to add lots of body.

9. Apply Hot Rollers Vertically to the Side

Verticalsideroller

Take a section of hair no wider than the diameter of the hot roller and comb it through to ensure there are no knots. Place the roller at the ends of the section of hair, being sure to smooth the ends under, and then twist the roller vertically, making sure to roll it backwards, along the hair shaft to the roots and secure it with a pin or clip. Keep the rollers in your hair until they cool.

10. Apply Hot Rollers Vertically in the Back

Horizontalbackroller

Take a section of hair from the nape no wider than the diameter of the hot roller and comb it through to ensure there are no knots. Place the roller at the ends of the section of hair, being sure to smooth the ends under, and then twist the roller vertically down the hair shaft to the roots and secure it with a pin or clip. Continue this step until the entire back section of your hair is completed. Keep the rollers in your hair until they cool.

11. Scrunch Moulding Cream Through Hair with Fingers

Productsshortscrunch

Apply moulding cream to your fingertips and then tilt your head forward and scrunch your hair.

12. Tease Hair

Tease

Pick up a small selection of hair from your mid section no bigger than your tail comb. Place your comb at the roots and then comb up and down until the hair is standing up by itself. Continue to the crown and finish at the sides. Repeat this step if you require more volume.

13. Apply Hairspray

Hairsprayfinishing

To finish, apply a minimal amount of hairspray from an arms length distance to the top, sides and back. Take care not to use too much or you will end up with a white, flaky residue which looks like dandruff.
