Description

This edgy style is pulled back and pinned in place to create a sassy up-do that will turn heads at any occasion. This hairstyle is ideal for an oblong face shape and is easy to re-create at home. It needs some hold product to keep it in place all day or night.

Amy Pham goes for a cool up-do here pinning her locks up at the crown and leaving out her longer layers in the front. Amy usually wears her hair down so this 'do provides her with a great option for a different look. Here she softens up her strong jawline by wearing longer layers around her face that highlights her cheekbones and sculpts her jawline. The center part gives her forehead some coverage while creating a sexy peek-a-boo effect, while the rest of her hair is pinned back softly, leaving lots of volume around her face.

Amy has dark eyes and a tanned skin tone which makes her suited to brunette and black colors of hair the best. Here, she goes for a bleached blonde and grey combo that flatters her warm complexion and showcases her striking eyes. The roots are a platinum blonde while the lengths and ends are colored a silvery tone for a cool contrast.

Amy pham is a Los Angeles-based actor, DJ, host and model.

Styling Steps

1. Apply Mousse

Placeholder articles

Apply styling mousse to damp hair, using your palm as a measuring guide, and evenly distribute it along the hair shaft. Styling mousse will add hold and can help achieve better results.

2. Part the Middle

Placeholder articles

Using the corner of your comb and standing in front of a mirror find the middle of your nose and then drag the comb straight up slowly until you reach your hairline and then continue back in a straight manner to achieve an even middle part. A middle part is a great way to make small, round face shapes appear longer and thinner.

3. Blow-dry Bangs Forward to the Left

Placeholder articles

To blow-dry your bangs to the side, clip the back and side sections up, leaving just your bangs out. Place your brush beneath your bangs, holding your hair to the side and remembering to hold the tension between your hair and brush. With your blow-dryer on a low setting, apply heat by starting at the roots and make sure to stretch your hair out to the ends. Repeat until your hair is dry.

4. Blow-dry Bangs Forward to the Right

Placeholder articles

When blow-drying your bangs to the side, section your hair up and clip your hair back to leave only your bangs out. Remember to make sure that your bangs are damp to make blow-drying more effective. Next, take your brush and place it underneath the hair and then blow-dry starting from the roots, adding tension to the hair as you go. Slowly pull your section down to the ends and continue until dry.

5. Mess Hair with Fingers for a Natural Dry

Placeholder articles

To create a full, messy do, use your fingers to mess the hair all over and place the sections down where you feel necessary. Remember, the messier, the better. To finish, allow the hair to dry naturally.

6. Tease Hair

Placeholder articles

Pick up a small selection of hair from your mid section no bigger than your tail comb. Place your comb at the roots and then comb up and down until the hair is standing up by itself. Continue to the crown and finish at the sides. Repeat this step if you require more volume.

7. Pin Hair

Placeholder articles

Once your hairstyle is complete, hold your hair into place and then pin your hair into your desired direction.

8. Apply Hairspray

Placeholder articles

To finish, apply a minimal amount of hairspray from an arms length distance to the top, sides and back. Take care not to use too much or you will end up with a white, flaky residue which looks like dandruff.
