Half Up Half Down Plum Burgundy Curls

Added: 13 Jan 2014
Curls can be tough to replicate, and this half up half down plum burgundy curled hairstyle is an excellent way of achieving a beautiful look! The longer pieces on the top help create the illusion of volume, while the shorter ones on the bottom help create movement and layers in your hair.

Our model is wearing plum burgundy curls, which look gorgeous on her. Her hair's back, and sides are styled so that all the curls sit perfectly. Her dark plum red hair color perfectly complements her ivory skin tone complexion. She's wearing plum-colored lipstick with a minimal blush on her cheeks, bronze eye makeup that matches her dark brown eyes, and a half-up half-down hairstyle! For this hairstyle, these gorgeous plum burgundy half up half down tresses are styled in curls all through the back and sides. The top half is then pulled back and pinned to the head, leaving out the length and layers to fall over the shoulders for a sweet and simple finish. This half up half down plum burgundy curls hairstyle is perfect for women with fine to medium hair. The curly locks of this hairstyle are soft and bouncy while also providing an elegant look. This look can be easily recreated at home with the right tools and needs product for shine and hold.

With a loose curl pattern and half up, half down style, this look is perfect for letting loose curls do the talking. Your hair can be maintained with regular trimming after 4-6 weeks and should be styled with hairspray for extra hold and freshness. Keep your curls away from the face by making sure your bangs are short or curled upwards to avoid movement in your hair during the day.

step 1

Apply styling mousse to damp hair, using your palm as a measuring guide, and evenly distribute it along the hair shaft. Styling mousse will add hold and can help achieve better results.

step 2

Using the corner of your comb and standing in front of a mirror find the middle of your left eye and then drag the comb straight up slowly until you reach your hairline and then continue back in a straight manner to achieve an even left part. A side part is great for longer face shapes because it creates the illusion of width.

step 3

A medium radial brush is used on medium to long hair types to smooth out wavy or curly hair textures or to add body to straight hair. When selecting a radial brush, always use one with a pure bristle as this will not tear or damage the hair.

step 4

To blow-dry under, start at the nape/back and place your brush under the section of hair close to the nape. With the dryer held up over the hair, pull the brush from the roots and continue to the mid length's, keeping the blow-dryer following over the top. Once you reach the ends, curve them under. Repeat this step until the section is completely dry.

step 5

To blow-dry the sides, take out a small section of hair from the front and clip the rest of the hair away. Next, place the brush under the section and then pull the brush and hair forward around your face (this curving motion creates body). Place the hair-dryer on top of the brush until you reach the ends and then turn the ends under. Repeat until dry.

step 6

A medium curling iron is used to create medium sized curls.

step 7

Take a small section of hair and place the ends at the base of your curling iron barrel and then wrap the hair up around the barrel until you reach your mid-lengths. Hold the hair for 5 to 10 seconds and then release the hair by unwinding the strands backwards.

step 8

Apply a small amount of wax to your fingertips and then lightly piece and pinch the ends of your hair.

step 9

Pick up a small selection of hair from your mid section no bigger than your tail comb. Place your comb at the roots and then comb up and down until the hair is standing up by itself. Continue to the crown and finish at the sides. Repeat this step if you require more volume.

step 10

Once your hairstyle is complete, hold your hair into place and then pin your hair into your desired direction.

step 11

To finish, apply a minimal amount of hairspray from an arms length distance to the top, sides and back. Take care not to use too much or you will end up with a white, flaky residue which looks like dandruff.
