Haircuts

Hi, can you help me determine my face shape? I think my face length = width + 0.4 of the width. I'm not sure if it's oval or oblong. Also, can you recommend a good short/medium haircut that flatters my face shape? Thank you so much for your help. Have a nice day!

Hi, using our face shape quiz (http://www.thehairstyler.com/features/articles/hairstyles/face-shape-quiz) and what you've provided, your face shape is oval. See the results here: http://www.thehairstyler.com/features/articles/hairstyles/oval-face-shape-characteristics. Haircuts

Hi. I am looking for a new cut/style for my hair. Currently it is permed and usually parted right down the middle, a little longer than shoulder length, one length with the exception of a little layer. It is thin & fine. I have a large nose so I do not like short hair and do not wear my hair up unless I am home. I am also tall, long face, mid 30s and thin. I need something easy that can be styled in a matter of minutes. Do you have any ideas or suggestions? Thank you.

Hi, I recommend giving our Find My Perfect Hairstyle consultation a go. It can be found at this link: http://www.thehairstyler.com/hair-consultation and will ask about the texture of your hair, if you have any chemical processes in it, what your current length is, what length you'd like and if you have features such as a large nose. When all of your info has been entered, it will then give you hairstyle ideas. I hope it helps! Kind regards, Serah Schuster - THS Hair Consultant.

Hairstyles

Hi there! I have hair that is medium thick. I tend to roller set it over night, which results in tons of curl and width. I don't oppose curls but I am wondering if there are hair brushes that can turn tight curls into long waves? Do you know brushes that can do this, or can you point me in the right direction.

Hi, thank you for your question. Any brush will turn curls into waves. Opt for natural bristles and use long even strokes from root to tip to get the best results. Kind regards, Serah Schuster - THS Hair Consultant.

Hair

I'm in desperate need of help. I have shoulder length kind of a straight/square, haircut - no layers. Have been coloring my hair for quite some time. My problem: very thick, dry, frizzy, bushy hair. Even after a couple of keratin treatments (home products - can't afford the sky high salon prices), my hair is not shiny nor smooth. There is no movement, and when I go to the beach, I'm ashamed to come out of the water because may hair becomes a ball of fuzz! Please help, short of shaving off my hair, I don't know what else to do. Thank You!

Hi, the best advice I can give about looking after your hair and stopping the frizz is that you will need a very good shampoo and conditioner for dry/frizzy treated hair, a heavy treatment that can be applied to your hair once a week, a moisturizing creme that can be applied every day, and that when straightening your hair, you use a straightening product before and after any heat appliances. Also, try if you can to not blow-dry your hair everyday as this will dry your hair out even more and cause more frizz. Consistency is the key - keep using the treatments every week and you should see an improvement. Hope this helps. Kind regards, Serah Schuster - THS Hair Consultant.

Hair

I am losing my hair in clumps of 10 to 20 strands of hair. What is the best product to use on my hair to help? I am now taking vitamins to help with this also...I added more vitamin B and biotin to my daily regimen. I have long, colored, wavy hair and I am 40.

Hi, while some daily hair loss is normal, if you're concerned that you're losing more than expected, I suggest you make an appointment to see a trichologist. They can examine your scalp thoroughly to assess the hair fall and possible causes, they should also be able to give you an accurate solution and recommendation of products to use. Nowadays, there are lots of products marketed as being suitable for hair loss and hair fall. The only way to know if they are right for you is to give them a try. Hair

Hi, I have this problem about my hair. I want to make my hair straight again. I chemically curled my hair 2 weeks ago and I want to straighten it again. I just wanna ask how many months do I have to wait to have it straightened again? Do I have to wait months or not? Thank you.

Hi, you don't have to wait months to have your hair straightened again, however, you do have to get your locks as healthy as possible as straightening is another chemical process which will weaken the strands and cause breakage. Use some nourishing hair treatments, and when you feel that your hair is as healthy and as strong as you can get it, get it straightened. Or you can blow-dry your hair straight for a couple months until you have grown a couple of centimeters out from the root, that way you won't have to apply straightening cream to your roots and risk further hair damage. General Hair Styling

I am 52 and my hairline is receding BADLY due to hormonal changes and stress. I need a hair style that will suit me with no bangs, I look terrible in bangs. I always had great hair but now it has no lift --even using a volumizer. It is pretty thick but just having this receding hairline on the sides. When I wear it off my face, it is less noticeable but then my wrinkles show! This aging is really stressing me out. I have copper gold hair with highlights and it is medium length now. It gets a wavy frizz unless I blow-dry and even then not too good these days. I was thinking of cutting it really short---which I wore for 10 yrs in the 80's, but want to be stylish and hip still. Don't want to turn into a middle age woman. HELP!

Hi, it sounds like you could benefit from our Find My Perfect Hairstyle consultation. It can be found at this link: http://www.thehairstyler.com/hair-consultation and will ask you questions based on your own personal attributes to help work out what is the right style for you. After you've used the consultation, try on some of the recommended styles using your photo so that you can get an idea of how you might look, and so that you know for sure that the style won't age you. Good luck! Kind regards, Serah Schuster - THS Hair Consultant.

Hair

Hi, I have fine-medium wavy, dryish fly away, medium length hair. I alternate between perming it and straightening it to get some control. It's better (more weight) for a few weeks after dying but I don't want to dye it too often - I would prefer to keep the greys hidden longer with streaks/highlights rather than putting dyes into my body. I use/try pricey salon products to try and get definition and style but it doesn't seem to make a lot of difference except if a lot of time is put into styling it which I simply can't do most days. My hair hates humidity, air conditioning and changes in temperature. Seems to be getting worse as I get older. I like a more casual style but also needs to be OK for business. Do I have to bite the bullet and go shorter?

Hi, going shorter will give the illusion of thicker hair. You will also benefit from shorter hair as this will mean cutting off ends that are dry and broken. There are short hairstyles that are versatile enough to be worn in a business environment or as a low-fuss everyday style. Constant perming, straightening and coloring of the hair will dry out your locks, so if you still feel the need to go through with these chemical processes, it's best to not do them so often. Also remember to use a shampoo and conditioner for chemically treated hair. I recommend booking an appointment with a stylist so they can assess your hair personally and give you the best advice with a face to face consultation. I hope this has been helpful. Hairstyles

Hi, I have found some gorgeous hairstyles, one in particular in makeovers, the bob with length in the front and bangs. I am a heart shaped face with long bra length wavy hair. I am thinking of cutting my hair for my son's wedding, which is in Fiji in September this year. Being a heart shaped face, should I have bangs or leave my fringe long swept to the side? I do have a small face and was wondering if having bangs would suit or not. I'm 50yrs old with light skin, light to medium brown hair (colored because I'm greying on top) and 5ft 2. Your advise would be very appreciated as I'm not sure which type of bob to go with. Kind regards, Debee4u :)

Hi, bangs that suit a heart shaped face are long bangs with some height or long side-swept bangs. As for a bob, make sure it's either a chin length graduated bob or a texturized bob with volume. Stay away from a bob with blunt cut bangs or a slicked down bob as they will only work against your heart face shape. Kind regards, Serah Schuster - THS Hair Consultant.

I think I have an oval face and have looked through 100's of styles and still cannot find one to suit me. I seem to be drawn to the same ones. Could you please advise me on a style? I only have 8 months to establish a new style for my sons wedding.

Haircuts

Hello, I have an appointment to get my haircut on Saturday and I'm trying to decide on whether or not I should get bangs. I've wanted to try the side-swept bang look for a while now, however, my hair elasticity is wavy. I think getting bangs would compensate for my long forehead and I know how to control my hair's waviness, but I'm concerned that if I get bangs, I'll regret it because they'll curl up and be difficult to handle. What would you suggest I do in this situation? Thanks! :-)

Hi, thank you for your enquiry. First, to see if bangs will suit you, I suggest finding a hairstyle with the bangs you like and trying it on your photo. This will give you an idea of how you may look with bangs and can sometimes be enough to make the decision for you. Second, understand that bangs can take work, especially for those with wavy hair. You will most likely need to straighten your bangs everyday or every second day depending on the strength of your wave in order to have your bangs sit properly. If you are willing to put in the styling effort required for bangs and like the way they look on your photo, then they are a great option to try. Haircuts

Hi, I'm planning on getting a haircut this weekend and I want to change my style a little bit, but I'm having trouble finding a style that will look good on me. I have dark brown wavy hair that's long, an oval face shape, and a somewhat-long forehead. I want to keep my hair long, and I've thought about getting bangs. I always get my hair feathered so it frames my face and I part it on the side, but I've found that the shorter sections of my hair get in my face a lot when I get it cut this way. I'm afraid though, that if I get the shorter sections cut to make side-swept bangs, they'll curl up and be difficult to control. Any suggestions? All help is appreciated :-)

Hi, my name is Christian, I'm a guy. Can you help me with my face shape and my hairstyle problem? I just recorded this lately: length = 8.5, cheekbone = 6, forehead = 5.15, jaw = 5. I believe that I have an oblong face shape. My hairstyle that I have is wavy. Can you help me?

Hi Christian, if you're confused about your face shape then I recommend taking our easy face shape quiz at this link: http://www.thehairstyler.com/features/articles/hairstyles/face-shape-quiz. It will ask the questions about your face that only you can answer to help work out what is the correct shape. Measurements for faces can be unreliable as it's hard to accurately define where to start and end a measurement, so we suggest using easily identifiable features instead, and our quiz will ask you about those features. Once you know what your face shape is, use our hair consultation to find the right hairstyle: http://www.thehairstyler.com/hair-consultation Kind regards, Serah Schuster - THS Hair Consultant.
