What exactly does your website do?
Our computer hair imaging tool allows you to see what you look like with different hairstyles and colors and gives you the chance to test a new hairstyle before visiting your hairdresser. THS also enables your family and friends to give you their advice in regards to a new look and help you to establish good communication with your hairdresser. It all works online so you can view our website from anywhere, anytime.

What is the cost?
Standard membership is free and premium membership is $14.95. With standard membership you can enjoy a professional hair consultation, view a model with 1000s of hairstyles and 53 colors and add your makeover to My Hair - Your say for community feedback. With premium membership you can enjoy all the benefits of standard membership, but also, you can view all TheHairStyler's hairstyles and colors, as well as some makeup, on your own photo!

Which browser do I need to view this site?
Whilst TheHairStyler.com should work on most browsers, we officially support Internet Explorer 6+ (version 7 or 8 is recommended), Mozilla Firefox 3+ and Apple Safari 3+. Cookies and JavaScript should be enabled in your browser. The web pages are designed for a monitor resolution of 1024 x 768. Please raise your resolution to see TheHairStyler.com in all its glory.

I cannot see the demo.
To view the demo, please make sure you have done the following:
- Your browser needs to be enabled to accept cookies and sessions. This is a default setting in your browser.
- You have deleted the cookies from your computer and cleared your browser's cache. This would help avoid viewing the cached page.
- You are using Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Internet Explorer 6+ (version 7 and 8 are the recommended versions) or Apple Safari as your browser.
- You have Adobe Flash Player 9+ or above installed. If you don't have Flash installed then please download and install it. It will only take a few minutes to install.
- Your firewall is not preventing you from viewing TheHairStyler.com. If it is then you will need to configure your firewall so it will accept cookies and flash/ActiveX downloads from our website address. Please click on your firewall and enable the firewall to allow TheHairStyler.com permission or follow instructions from your firewall's manual.

Makeover page/virtual hairstyler does not load/shows a blank page when I try to view it.
If you cannot see anything when you try to load the virtual hairstyler page can you please make sure that you have the latest version of flash installed. It can be downloaded for free at this link - http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ - and that your firewall is not blocking the flash from being loaded. If it is then you will need to configure your firewall so it will accept cookies and Flash/ActiveX downloads from our website address. Please click on your firewall and enable the firewall to allow TheHairStyler.com permission or follow instructions from your firewall's manual. We also recommend trying to view the website in another browser, such as FireFox, which can be downloaded for free at this link: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/.

Add a photo option not available in the Virtual Hairstyler.
If you are trying to upload your photo but are given a message that says "Is not available" when you try to click on the photo upload icon, then you are most likely viewing the Virtual Hairstyler in demo mode. The demo mode only gives you access to certain functionality. To upload your photo and more, you will need to sign up for a premium membership at http://www.thehairstyler.com/signup. Once logged in, you can visit the Virtual Hairstyler from the menu that runs along the top of every page and you should then be able to upload a photo.

How do I upload my photo to Virtual Hairstyler?
It's quite easy to upload a photo to the Virtual Hairstyler. Anyone can try the Virtual Hairstyler, but you must sign up for a premium membership to be able to upload your own photos, which you can do here: http://www.thehairstyler.com/signup. Once you've registered for an account, simply follow these steps:
- Visit the Virtual Hairstyler from the menu at the top of any page.
- Click the icon Add Photo- it's the one showing the black camera.
- Follow the steps to either upload a photo from your computer or off the Internet via a web address.
- Tick the box next to "I certify that I have the right to use this photo and that it doesn’t violate the terms and conditions" and press the Add Photo button.

I want my photo to stay private. Will anyone else be able to see it if I upload it to my account?
To address privacy concerns, all photos are kept in a secure, password protected area which only the member has access to. If you do not wish others to see your photo or any personal information then we recommend not placing a personal photo of yourself (please feel free to add any other kind of picture, such as an image of flowers etc) or any personal info to your profile page. In regards to the photos that you upload to the Virtual Hairstyler to use while looking for a new hairstyle, these cannot be seen by anyone else unless you choose to add your makeovers to My Hair - Your Say for comment.

If you have a Zone Alarm firewall installed please use the following instructions to adjust your settings:
- Open Zone Alarm.
- Click on Privacy.
- In the Main tab, make sure the Cookie Control and Ad Blocking options are set to Med.
- Click on the Site List tab.
- Add TheHairStyler.com and make sure all of the options have a green tick.
- Click on TheHairStyler.com option, right click and select Options.
- Make sure that none of the boxes are ticked and press Apply.
- Reload your browser.
Using the AOL Browser. If you are using the America Online built-in browser you will need to Disable Compressed Graphics or you could experience problems with viewing your photo. To view your uploaded photo with TheHairStyler.com please check the following: Disabling Compressed Graphics in AOL Version 9.0 for the Windows Platform.
- Launch AOL.
- Click on Settings. The AOL settings dialog window will appear.
- Click on Internet Properties. The AOL Internet properties dialog window will appear.
- Click the AOL Browser tab.
- Make sure that "Never compress graphics" is enabled.
- Click the OK button to close the AOL Internet properties dialog window.
- Clear the cache of your browser and refresh the page.
Disabling Compressed Graphics in AOL Version 7.0 for the Windows Platform.
- Launch AOL.
- Click on Settings and select the Preferences option. The Preferences dialog window will appear.
- Click on Internet Properties (WWW). The AOL Internet Properties dialog window will appear.
- Click the Web Graphics tab.

- Clear the cache of your browser and refresh the page.

Can I upload more than one photo?
With a premium membership you can upload more than one photo. This means that you can switch between photos, for example, one of you with glasses and one without. You can also change your photo at anytime.

How do I view my photo with the hairstyles?
To view your photo with the hairstyles you need to sign up for a premium membership. Then, simply log into your account and click on Virtual Hairstyler from the menu that runs along the top of any page. Once the Virtual Hairstyler has loaded all you need to do is select your photo from the navigator on the right hand side of the Virtual Hairstyler. Your photo will then load in the middle of the Virtual Hairstyler. From there you can edit your photo using the tools located below your photo or the Edit Photo option on the left hand side of the Virtual Hairstyler. Once you have your photo at the right size you just need to click Hairstyles in the navigator on the right and use the arrows to navigate through the styles, or you can use the Hairstyles Search button on the left hand side of the Virtual Hairstyler under the Styling section.

The hairstyles don't sit correctly on my photo.
If you find that some of the hairstyles do not fit your photo correctly then you can adjust your photo by using the arrows in the Photo Positioning tool and the Control Zoom located below your photo in the Virtual Hairstyler.

What are the photo specifications?
For the best results we recommend that you make sure you upload a head and shoulders high quality photo of yourself that meet the following guidelines:
- You should be looking directly at the camera against a plain white background without tilting your head.
- Your hair should be tied back and behind your ears so your face and ears are well exposed.
- Your photo should be of normal size, clear, focused and well lit.
To be able to upload your photo it needs to be in jpg format, which is a standard and common digital photo format. The photo should be 1 MB max in size. If your photo is too big please try taking it or scanning it at a lower setting, adjusting the size in a photo edit program, or using one of these free online image resizing tools.
Please remember that the better quality photo you upload, the better you will look with the different hair styles and colors.

How do I delete/remove my photo?
To delete any photo uploaded to the Virtual Hairstyler, please click on the trash can icon that appears with the thumbnail of your photo when it loads in the Upload tab of the Navigator.

Why won't my picture load?
If you're having trouble uploading or loading your photo can you please make sure that you have done the following:
- Your photo is in a valid JPG photo format.
- The name of your photo does not have any unusual characters, i.e. <, ', /, * etc.
- You are logged into your account and not trying to upload your photo to our demo.
- That your photo is no bigger than 1Mb.
- That you have ticked the box next to "I certify that I have the right to use this photo and that it doesn’t violate the terms and conditions" before pressing the add photo button in the photo upload wizard.
- That you have cleared your cache and reloaded the page before attempting to upload/load your photo.
The loading issues are caused by the size of the photo being uploaded. To correct the problem we recommend making sure that your photo is as small as possible. This will allow your photo to load more quickly and make it easier for you to view the hairstyles with your photo. If your photo is over 1 MB then we kindly ask that you please use these tools to make your photo smaller:
If at anytime you have trouble resizing or uploading your photo then you can email it, along with your username to support@thehairstyler.com and we will be more than happy to adjust your photo and add it to your account for you.

How do I switch to using the model instead of my photo?
To switch to viewing the hairstyles with the model you just need to click on the icon labelled Change Model on the left hand side of the Virtual Hairstyler and follow the steps.

I have uploaded my picture but it is too zoomed in/large. How do I fix it?
If your photo is too large then you can use our photo editor to shrink down your photo and align it correctly so it is the right size to view with the hairstyles. To use the photo editor, please make sure you have your photo selected (it will say active in the navigator on the right hand side of the virtual hairstyler) and then click on the Edit Photo icon on the left hand side of the Virtual Hairstyler. A wizard will then pop up that will guide you through adjusting your photo.

How do I login?
For your convenience, there are two ways to login to TheHairStyler.com. There is a Log In link at the top right corner of every page and a Member Login box on the right hand side of every page.

Can I cancel my membership? How do I cancel?
You can cancel your membership at anytime by clicking on the My Profile tab at the top of any page and going to the Update Your Profile option (located in My Bookmarks). To cancel your account, go to the bottom of the page and click on the Deactivate My Account link.

How do I change my details?
To change your details, please click on the My Profile tab at the top of any page and go to the Update Your Profile option (located in My Bookmarks). Here you will find all of your details which can be changed as often as you like. Please edit the details that you would like to change and then click Update.

The hairstyles and colors don't look realistic. What should I do?
The hairstyles and colors will look best on a photo with a white background where you are facing front on. Please remember that the better quality photo you upload, the better you will look with the different hairstyles and colors. You can modify your photo with the Photo Editor (click on the Edit Photo icon in the Virtual Hairstyler), which will add a white background to your photo based on the face shape you choose. The Photo Editor also allows you to correct the brightness, red, green and blue offsets of your photo. Please make sure that your monitor is set to at least 16 bit color mode (thousands of colors) and that the contrast and brightness on your monitor is set accurately so that the colors displayed by your monitor are realistic. We highly recommend you set your color mode to 32 bit.

How do I print the hairstyles?
To print the hairstyles please click on the Print Photo button located below your photo in the Virtual Hairstyler. Please note that this button is different from the print button in your browser.

You can save your favorite hairstyles by clicking on the Save to Favs button in the lower right hand corner of the Virtual Hairstyler.

You can email the hairstyles to your friends by clicking on the Send Email button in the lower right hand corner of the Virtual Hairstyler.

The hairstyle color doesn't change after I select it.
Once you have selected your color from the hair color option box please click the Apply button at the bottom of the box to see your new color.

How do I view the men's styles?
To view our range of men’s hairstyles please use these instructions.
In the Virtual Hairstyler:
- Visit the Virtual Hairstyler from the menu at the top of any page.
- Click on the Hairstyles Search icon on the left hand side of the Virtual Hairstyler.
- Select Men's Hairstyles as your category and click continue.
- Select your length and texture.
- Make sure Up and Half-up in the Style option is NOT selected (ticked).
- Click Show Results and then the men's hairstyles will load in the hairstyles tab in the navigator on the right.
From the hairstyles menu:
- Click on the Hairstyles menu that runs along the top of any page.
- Select Men's Hairstyles from the options given.

How do I view the women's styles?
To view our range of women’s hairstyles please use these instructions.
In the Virtual Hairstyler:
- Visit the Virtual Hairstyler from the menu at the top of any page.
- Click on the Hairstyles Search icon on the left hand side of the Virtual Hairstyler.
- Select Casual, Formal and Alternative as your category and click continue.
- Select your length, texture and style (or all).
- Click Show Results and then the women's hairstyles will load in the hairstyles tab in the navigator on the right.
From the hairstyles menu:
- Click on the Hairstyles menu that runs along the top of any page.
- Select Alternative, Casual or Formal from the options in the drop down menu.

Where have some of the hairstyles gone?/ How do I view/find the hairstyles?
We've made some big new changes to THS, which includes better quality hairstyles at a larger size so that our hairstyles are now even more realistic. These newer hairstyles are still being added to the website so there will be plenty more styles to come over the following weeks. We do apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause but are confident that the quality of our new hairstyles is worth the wait.
To view hairstyles in the Virtual Hairstyler:
1) Go to the Virtual Hairstyler (can be accessed from the menu at the top of any page).
2) Click on the Hairstyles tab in the navigator on the right to view the latest hairstyles added to the site. Please note that you may need to clear your cache to make sure you are seeing the latest hairstyles/all of the results possible.
To search for specific hairstyles:
1) In the Virtual Hairstyler, click on the Hairstyles icon under Styling on the left hand side of the Virtual Hairstyler to access our hairstyles wizard.
2) From here you can select categories and the length and texture of the hairstyles. After making your selection and clicking Show Results the website will then load your results in the navigator on the right. Depending on the options that you choose, this may take a few seconds or a few moments so please be patient.

Can I add highlights to the hairstyles?
At the moment it is not possible to add highlights to the hairstyles, but we will be adding this feature in the near future.
My Hair – Your Say
How do I add hairstyles to My Hair - Your Say?
You can add styles to My Hair – Your Say by:
- Going to our Virtual Hairstyler and creating your own makeover.
- Clicking on the MH-YS button in the bottom right hand corner when you are happy with your makeover and want to receive comments and ratings from the THS community.

How do I add comments to My Hair - Your Say?
To add your comments to any of the styles on the My Hair - Your Say feature please click on the Add Comment link provided with each style.

How do I view the comments and ratings left for me?
To read the comments for your styles in the My Hair - Your Say feature please follow these instructions:
- Go to your profile and click on the Makeovers tab.
- Find the makeover you’d like to see the comments for and click on the My Hair – Your Say Link provided with each makeover.
- Choose the Jump to Comments option to see what other members thought of your makeover.

How do I remove hairstyles from My Hair - Your Say?
At the moment it is not possible to remove hairstyles from the My Hair – Your Say feature, but we will be adding a delete/remove button in the near future.
Favorites
How do I view my favorites?
To view your favorites please click on the My Profile tab in the top menu and then go to the Makeovers tab.

My favorites have not saved. What I am doing wrong?
If your saved styles have not appeared in your favorites then please make sure that the Saving to Favorites message that appears when you click on the Save to Favs button disappears before moving onto a new makeover or another section of the site.

How do I save the favorites to my computer?
To save a favorite hairstyle to your computer it must be saved to My Hair – Your Say. To save your hairstyle to your computer from MH-YS you just need to right click on the hairstyle from the MH-YS area and choose the Save Picture As option.

I'm a previous member. How do I get to my old favorites?
We have set up access to our old website temporarily so that you can log in and get your favorites. This login will give you a chance to save all your past favorites onto your computer. This will be available for a limited amount of time and we request that you download any favorites you don't want to lose ASAP. We understand the frustration with not being able to carry on favorites over to the new website, but it's technically not possible due to the higher resolution of our new Virtual Hairstyler. However, we do believe that our new website is definitely worth this minor setback and we hope you'll agree very soon. How do I clear my Web browser's cache?
Internet Explorer 6:
- Click on Tools.
- Click on Internet Options.
- Click the General tab.
- Delete files then click OK.
- Click OK to close down the Internet Options window.
- Close down your browser.
- Open your browser again, go to our website and log in.
Internet Explorer 7:
- Click on Tools.
- Click on Internet Options.
- Click the General tab.
- Under Browsing history, click Delete.
- Go to Temporary Internet Files and click Delete files.
- Click Close, and then click OK to exit.
- Close down your browser.
- Open your browser again, go to our website and log in.
Internet Explorer 8:
- Click on the Safety menu and then click Delete Browsing History.
- Check Temporary Internet files and History, and then click Delete.
- Close down your browser.
- Open your browser again, go to our website and log in.
Mozilla/Firefox:
- Click on Tools.
- Click on Options.
- Click on Privacy (located in the left hand menu).
- Click on Cookies, and then clear.

Mozilla/Firefox 3:
- Click on Tools and select Clear Private Data.
- Check Cache and click Clear Private Data Now.

Mozilla/Firefox 3.5:
- Click on Tools and select Clear Recent History.
- From the "Time range to clear:" drop-down menu, select the desired range; to clear your entire cache, select Everything.
- Click the down arrow next to "Details" to choose what history elements to clear and then click Clear Now.
- Close down your browser.
- Open your browser again, go to our website and log in.
AOL:
- Click My AOL on the AOL toolbar.
- Click on Preferences.
- Click on www.
- Click on Temporary Internet Files.
- Click on Delete Files.
- Click on the OK button.
- Close down your browser.
- Open your browser again, go to our website and log in.
Safari:
- Go to the Safari menu and select Empty Cache.
- When prompted, click Empty to confirm that you want to empty the cache.
