Luscious Lipstick Makeup Tips
Make the most of your lipstick with these luscious tips.
Whether you’re a makeup novice, or can apply it like a professional, getting lipstick right will serve you well. Lipstick, after all, has the power to pull a fabulous look together or add a touch of glam and color on the days that you only have 30 seconds to make yourself presentable. Find out how you can make this one makeup item work wonders for you with these tips!
If you want your lipstick to shine, choose a bold color and keep your eye makeup toned down. If you want your lipstick to help your eye makeup grab attention, keep your lipstick shade subtle and let your eye shadow do all the work. Just remember, play up one feature (either the eyes or the mouth), never both.
You don’t need to splash out on lip plumping formulas (unless you want to). Any lipstick can give your lips a boost; you just have to apply it right. For plumper looking lips, apply a lip liner that matches your lipstick just outside your natural lip line and then use your pinky finger to dab some clear gloss in the centre of your bottom lip. The gloss and the color just on the outside of your natural lips will give the illusion of a fuller pout.
Experiment with the application of your lipstick to find what’s right for you. You can apply straight from the tube, you can use your fingers to dab on a sheerer coat, or you can use a lip brush to paint on your color.
Extend the wear of your lipstick by applying a light layer of foundation over your lips, then fill them in with lip liner and then apply your lipstick over the top. This combination should keep your lippie on longer, and give your formula something to cling to.
Color match your lip liner and your lipstick. They don’t have to be exact, but try and get it as close as possible and ensure the liner is always lighter. Dark liner and light lips is not a great finish.
If you’ve bought a color and realized when you got home that it’s just not a good color for you, don’t despair. You can still use the shade, just in different ways. Use it as a blush by rubbing a small smudge over your cheekbones and blending well. Or play with the brightness of the tone by dabbing a small amount across your lips and making it sheer by covering it in lip gloss. You can even blend and combine the shade with other lipsticks and glosses until you get the color that you want.
Our final tip, always pick your lipstick shade based on your skin tone, not what looks hot on your friend or the model promoting the lipstick.
