Mid-Length Kinky Dark Red Waves

Added: 18 Sep 2017
Kinky waves are added to the sides and back of this style to give this look movement and subtle shape. This casual 'do is easy to re-create with the right tools and needs product to tame fly-away hair. Regular trims will also help maintain a healthy look and feel by preventing split ends.

Our model has large, expressive facial features and a strong jawline, which is nicely complemented by her soft wavy tresses here. Having a triangular face shape, our model has a wide, broad forehead to contend with plus a tapering shape to her face and a rounded, dainty chin line. Voluminous hairstyles that have lots of body and volume around the jaw and neck area are ideal for her as they balance out her narrow bottom half of the face the best. This wavy 'do does just that for her, while the layered ends give her hair added movement and versatility. She would also look great in bangs as it would give her broad forehead some camouflage, however the side part and grown out bangs are working well for her too. These waves can be created with a waving iron or by braiding wet hair and letting it dry naturally.

Our model has a fair, warm skin tone and dark blue eyes. This coloring is best paired with blonde and brown tones, but it is also possible for ladies with this complexion and eye color to wear a variety of red shades too. Here, our model goes for a rich auburn tone with copper highlights that has a natural looking finish to it. This color brightens up her complexion and gives her an all over warm glow while bringing out her intense blue eyes.

step 1

Using the corner of your comb and standing in front of a mirror find the middle of your left eye and then drag the comb straight up slowly until you reach your hairline and then continue back in a straight manner to achieve an even left part. A side part is great for longer face shapes because it creates the illusion of width.

step 2

To blow-dry under, start at the nape/back and place your brush under the section of hair close to the nape. With the dryer held up over the hair, pull the brush from the roots and continue to the mid length's, keeping the blow-dryer following over the top. Once you reach the ends, curve them under. Repeat this step until the section is completely dry.

step 3

To blow-dry the sides, take out a small section of hair from the front and clip the rest of the hair away. Next, place the brush under the section and then pull the brush and hair forward around your face (this curving motion creates body). Place the hair-dryer on top of the brush until you reach the ends and then turn the ends under. Repeat until dry.

step 4

To blow-dry the crown/top sections, take a section of hair no bigger than the diameter of the brush and blow-dry the hair placing the brush under the section of hair. With your blow-dryer in front of the brush, follow the brush in an upwards direction at the roots and an outwards position at the ends for volume and softness. Continue until the section is dry.

step 5

A triple barrel curling iron is used to apply a defined wave throughout the hair.

step 6

Starting at the nape and working your way up, take a small to medium section of hair and clamp it between the barrels of your curling iron. Hold the hair for 5 to 10 seconds and then release.

step 7

Starting above your ear and working your way up to your part, take a small to medium section of hair and clamp it between the barrels of your curling iron. Hold the hair for 5 to 10 seconds and then release.

step 8

To get your sides to sit out, apply a small amount of moulding cream to your fingertips and then working mainly on the ends, pinch them while dragging the hair in an out and upwards motion. The more moulding cream and the more pinching that you apply, the more textured and pasty the result.

step 9

Using moulding cream and your fingers grab the mid-lengths of your hair and then drag it out and upwards for a full and messy result.

step 10

To finish, apply a minimal amount of hairspray from an arms length distance to the top, sides and back. Take care not to use too much or you will end up with a white, flaky residue which looks like dandruff.
