“Alternative Hairstyles”

Description

Alternative hairstyles are ones that stand apart from fashionable, conventional and classic hairstyles. They are best described as unusual, daring, bright, fun, avante-garde, geometric and exaggerated- with elements of punk. Celebrities who like to appear "a little bit different" have alternative styles and often start new fads with them (Pink, Amy Winehouse, and David Beckham).

Method

Often anything goes with an alternative hairstyle: the crazier the better. Hairstylists perform these looks in a controlled environment, and most of the time there's really no such thing as a mistake.

Benefit

If you want to feel free of fashion, then go for it. Or, if you want to bolster your marketing campaign, then an alternative hairstyle may be a good choice. But beware because most short styles will take some time to grow out, and wild colors may damage your hair (particulary when stripped out or re-colored).

    • This is a short funky hairdo with different lengths to add contrast and shape to the style. This style features front layers which can be worn as long bangs swept to the side. The Back: has been cut short and close to the head for a flat finish. The Sides: the layers have been sliced to maintain a wispy look with the length cut down to angle towards the jaw line while still blending up to the shorter textured layers through the top.

      How to Style

    • Amber Rose didn't need to fuss with hairstyling or hair products at the Metropolitan Opera's 125th Anniversary Gala and she still managed to attract plenty of attention. Her eye-popping buzz cut was short enough to be a number 3 all over, which is great for those with a busy schedule. To add some life to her very short 'do, Amber gave this great gold hair color a try.

      How to Style

    • Amy wore this out-there vintage style and made quite an impression. Her hair was styled extra high around her crown to help create a beehive-like look and pieces of hair were left to fall around her face to soften her defined hairdo. The round shape of the hairstyle also helps to even out the look of Amy's square face shape.
