Gwyneth Paltrow hairstylesFor all their complaining about the spotlight and the paparazzi and the fans, some celebrities nevertheless believe they’re special and a cut above the rest of us. They don’t think they need to abide by the normal expectations of society. Some of them park their massive Hummers wherever they want and don’t care about parking fines; some laugh-off driving violations and sweet-talk police out of giving them tickets; and some even give their defenceless children ridiculous names.

Here’s my top 5 most ridiculous names of celebrity children:

  1. Rob Morrow’s daughter: Tu Morrow (pronounced “tomorrow”)
  2. Jamie Oliver’s daughter: Boo Daisy
  3. Gwyneth Paltrow’s daughter: Apple
  4. Bob Geldof’s Daughter: Fifi Trixibelle
  5. Nicholas Cage’s son: Kal-el (Superman’s birth name from the planet Krypton)

And special mention (since no one’s heard of her really anyway) goes to...

Shannyn Sossamon’s son: Audio Science.

Shannyn Sossamon's hairstylesThere’s definitely a surprise or two on the list. I’m talking specifically about Jamie Oliver; he seems like such a down-to-earth kind of guy, don’t you think? I mean, he had that TV show where he went around the UK trying to teach people how to eat healthy. Great. But then he goes and names his daughter “Boo Daisy.” Hmmmm; based on that name I take back what I said about Jamie and replace it with (to use an English expression) “tosser.”

But there’s no surprises from Rob Morrow and Gwyneth. You can tell from the way he plays that character in Numb3rs that Rob thinks he’s pretty much some kind of legend, and only a legend sitting way above us ordinary folk would come up with something as lamely obnoxious as Tu Morrow for his daughter. Gwyneth, on the other hand, is just naive. I mean, she just doesn’t get it. Don’t believe me? Check out her blog “Goop.”

I think celebrities name their kids these crazy names because they operate in a different world from the rest of the public. Maybe they do, and maybe that’s our (read: fans) fault. But whatever the reason, what about considering their children’s’ teenage years and the endless insults I’m sure they’ll be taking on the chin?
