Okay, so the low ponytail has been done before. But on the Spring 2013 fashion catwalks, low ponytails were everywhere, some with a new twist for 2013.

Most of the models were sporting plain low ponytails that were loose and effortless, rather than tight and severe like some of the ponies we've seen in past years. So if you like to wear carefree low ponytails, you're already right on trend. Other variations that will be hot in 2013 are:

Kristen Stewart hairstylesRolled to the side ponytails: Kristen Stewart was seen wearing one of these more intricate ponytails, which had been rolled and pinned to one side at the nape of the neck. To give it some extra glamour, Kristen has added a lot of volume to the crown. This is perfect for an evening out, but for the daytime, keep it casual and flat.

Rooney Mara hairstylesRooney Mara shows us another example of a low ponytail with a twist—literally! She has swept her short hair to the back of the head into a ponytail and secured it. Then, taking a section of hair from the bottom of the ponytail and wrapping it around, she has covered the tie with hair, creating a unique low ponytail that is suitable for work and play.
