Hi, my hair is a little damaged from straightening it. I wanna get it relaxed, but before I do I wanna repair my hair so its not damaged. How can I get it repaired faster?

Hi, the best advice I can give about repairing damaged hair is to use a very good shampoo and conditioner made specifically for damaged hair, to use a heavy treatment in your hair once a week, and to try a moisturizing creme every day. If you can, try to lay off the heat styling and chemical products (such as hair color etc) for a while too. I need help. I've been getting an itchy scalp and painful pimples on my head. What can I do to make them go away?

Hi, I strongly suggest you make an appointment to see a trichologist (a scalp doctor) to examine your scalp thoroughly. This way they will be able to give you an accurate solution. I hope I have helped. Kind regards, THS Hair Consultant.

Hair

I'm a male with very, very thick and coarse hair. What is the best way to thin it out? I'm thinking about trying a new style but in order to do it my hair needs to be thinner.

Hi, thinning scissors can be used to make thick hair thinner but the results that you receive all depends on your hair type. Using thinning scissors in some hair types can actually make hair frizzy so I recommend seeing a hairstylist in person so that they can assess your hair type, length and texture and let you know whether thinning your hair with thinning scissors will give you the results that you want. Hairstyles

Well I have 2 hair crowns on the back and my hair is a little difficult to comb. I usually cut the hair short and I like to use a hairstyle like Josh Radnor, but I'd like to use a different one, a little more long and to the side but I think if it is a little bit longer it will be even more harder to comb Do you have any advice?

Hi, unfortunately a crown will always do what it wants to do. The best way to tame it is to style the hair in the direction it grows. I recommend visiting a hairstylist in person so that they can see the crowns and let you know if you can get away with a longer style. Kind regards, Serah Schuster - THS Hair Consultant.

Hairstyles

Hi, my hair has been thinning since high school (I'm 26 years old now). It has happened all over, but it is noticeable on my forehead sides. I have sparse hair around the sides on the top of my forehead now. I keep a short hairstyle now since it is less noticeable. I have no family history of female hair loss. What can I do to stop/slow hair loss? Will I keep losing hair until I'm bald? Will it ever grow back? What hairstyles are best? Any other suggestions would be great.

Hi, I strongly suggest you make an appointment with a trichologist to examine your scalp thoroughly to assess the problem and its cause. This way, they will be able to give you an accurate solution. Kind regards, THS Hair Consultant.

Is there a product to get curly/wavy hair without getting a perm that actually works?

Hi, getting your hair to look curly works only if your hair has natural curls in it to start with. A product like mousse, spray gel, or liquid gel, or even some moisturizers, will all make naturally curly hair take its natural form and then dry that way. But, it's all useless if you don't have any waves or curls to begin with, or if your hair is not cut correctly to enhance and promote curls. An example is where shorter layers eliminate weight and add body and bounce to enhance curls. So you need to get your hair cut right to start with and then the right styling product to help you maintain it. A good hair stylist will be able to put you on the right path here. Good Luck! Kind regards, THS Hair Consultant.

I'm not sure what type hairstyle and hair color suits me. Right now my hair is straight-ish, medium length and medium/thin thickness with very short layers. I also have a long shaped fringe that I can tuck behind my ears. My (natural) hair color is light brown - dark blond. My face is round, my cheeks are very chubby and pink. I want a completely different look, one that really suits me and is casual yet stylish, cause the hairstyle I have now doesn't suit me at all. Plz help?

Hello. I have relaxed hair and I am in the process of transitioning to my natural African hair (it's not that coarse). At this point, I am loosing my front hair line so that's why I am going back to natural, then I want to interlock them to grow locks. Is it a good idea for me? Is there a product you can recommend for my front hair and to make my hair thicker? Please help. Thanks.

Hi Andrea, firstly are you loosing your front hairline because of the hair straightening? If the answer is yes, then this breakage should stop once your stop applying the harsh straightening chemicals to your hair. Breakage can occur for lots of reasons such as incorrect, harsh, or straightening products that are too strong for your hair type, and for other reasons such as bad application or processing. Whatever the reason, you should definitely stop using chemicals and let your hair grow back naturally. Now a good balanced Shampoo and Conditioner should be used to keep your hair in optimum condition, along with lots of massaging on your scalp to keep the blood circulating to the hair follicle. Vitamins such as Fish Oil have also been known to work for thinning hair. Good Luck! Kind regards, THS Hair Consultant.

Is it fine to apply oil on the hair and leave it for the whole day or two? On washing, my hair feels nice but soon it gets dry and starts feeling dry and lifeless after a day, then I feel like applying oil to it! What can I do to make my hair retain the shine? And how often should one wash their hair? What is the best way of applying shampoo? Is it direct to your hair or to develop it with water first?

Hi, if you're confused about hair products and what is best for you then I strongly recommended seeing a hairstylist in person as they will be able to see your hair up close and personal and give you the best course of action. As for washing your hair, how often you do it all depends on your own hair's needs so let your hair be your guide. If you need to wash every day, then wash every day with a gentle shampoo. If you can get away with only washing your hair every few days, then try that. As for applying shampoo, it's best to follow the directions on the bottle. For tips about shampoo, see this article: http://www.thehairstyler.com/blogs/hairstyles/hair-product-tips-shampoo. Kind regards, Serah Schuster - THS Hair Consultant.

How do I determine the texture of my hair? Recently I had my hair cut and styled and the hairdresser said that I have coarse hair. That was a first. All others have said that my hair (strands) are fine and the density is thick. It had been about 3 or 4 years since I had my hair cut by a professional. Could the texture have changed? The reason I ask is because I decided it was time for a makeover so I went from long straight natural brown, grey mixture to a chin length bob and colored it dark auburn with dark brown highlights. I'm very happy with it and want to take care of it with the proper products and styling procedures. I know I have thick (per square inch) hair but am stumped on the texture. This makes a big difference when it comes time to purchase hair care products. I've been doing research on this because I want the best results. Thank you for your time and interest, Liz.

Hi Liz, as I cannot see your hair texture up close, I recommend taking a look at our hair texture and elasticity article to help you determine your hair texture. http://www.thehairstyler.com/features/articles/hairstyles/free-consultation-know-your-hair-texture-and-elasticity. Hair Color

My hair is naturally white (at least since I hit 40). If I want to color it darker, will my roots grow in as white? I've never seen anyone with white roots.

Hi, if your hair color is now naturally white and you dye your hair a darker color, when your hair grows, the new growth (your roots) will come through as your natural color, which will be white. Dying your hair will only change the color of the hair that you dye at the time of coloring, not any new growth. Kind regards, Serah Schuster - THS Hair Consultant.

Hair

Hi! I'm really really confused of my face shape. It looks oblong but I am also having doubts that it is diamond. Please help! Could someone please browse through my photos here: http://my.thehairstyler.com/elleon/galleries and tell me my face shape? thank you so much!

Hi, based on your photos I would say that your face shape is definitely diamond. A diamond face shape has a long and narrow appearance, with the widest part of the face being the cheekbones, while the forehead and jaw line are narrow. Diamond faces shapes also have a pointy chin, which describes the photos you've shown me. Kind regards, Serah Schuster - THS Hair Consultant.

Hair

Hi! I need serious help! My problem is that all of a sudden no matter what kind of conditioner I use or how long I leave it on, I just cannot get a comb through it! I even use a detangler to no avail. It looks almost like horse hair or something. Please help I don't want to have to cut it all off. Also, is there a way to put something like low lights in for winter instead of highlights? My hair gets really blond in the summer but kind of dingy looking in the winter. I just found this site and I LOVE it! It is just a blast and so packed full of information on every subject!

Hi, to help you get a comb through your locks, try trimming the very ends to get rid off any split ends which may be causing it to tangle, hence finding it hard to comb. Also, try using a protein spray regularly to help keep it smooth. In regards to color, I recommend making an appointment with your hairstylist to have a professional consultation for having low-lights put through your hair. This way, they will be able to assess the condition of your hair personally to give you the best results. Kind regards, THS Hair Consultant.
