Hair Color

Hi, my natural hair color is a very light brown. I have blue-gray eyes and fair skin. Recently I have been thinking about dying my hair either a deeper brunette or a lighter blonde, however I am not sure about what color to choose. If you have any suggestions as to what shades I should choose, let me know. Thank you.

Hi, your fair skin indicates a cool skin tone, while naturally light brown hair is a cool/warm hair color. This means that hair colors that are cool or neutral will suit you best. For ideas in regards to color, I recommend adding your details to our hair consultation (http://www.thehairstyler.com/hair-consultations). After that, make an appointment with your hairdresser so that they can see your skin tone in person and match it perfectly with the hair color that you want. Kind regards, Serah Schuster - THS Hair Consultant.

Hairstyles

Hi, I have long hair (past the shoulders) and I am thinking of going for a short, collar bone length angled bob but I have a round/heart face. Should I go with it?

Hi, as long as your short style has layers through the back to give it height and lift, and at the crown for balance, then there's no reason why you can't wear an angled bob with your face shape. Kind regards, Serah Schuster - THS Hair Consultant.

Hair Color

I naturally have dirty blonde hair and for the past five years my hair has been platinum blonde. I am tired of the whole blonde thing and want to go darker but I am unsure of what color to do. I was thinking maybe a red color? I have fair skin, hazel eyes, and my wrist veins are blue if that tells you anything. Thank you.

Hi, it sounds like you have a cool skin tone which means that any hair color with a cool undertone will suit you. If you're interested in trying a red hair color then give copper blondes a try. For more color ideas, try adding your attributes to our hair consultation, which can be found in the makeover menu at the top of this page. Kind regards, Serah Schuster - THS Hair Consultant.

Hair Color

Hi, my natural hair color is dark blonde hair but I have been dying it a medium brown and have some golden tones in it. I was wondering how I could lighten it back to a light brown or dark blonde without bleach. Thanks.

Hi, unfortunately if you want to lighten hair your then do need to use some form of bleach. I recommend visiting a hairdresser in person for the best advice on how to achieve the color that you want as they can look at the current state of your hair color and condition, and advise accordingly. Kind regards, Serah Schuster - THS Hair Consultant.

Haircuts

Hi. I have an oval shaped face, medium texture hair, long and curly. I had the Brazilian keratin put in my hair over a year ago. I would like to have bangs but don't know where or how to begin looking. I want medium, maybe short hair. I am also looking for a maintenance free haircut because I will be overseas next year due to being in the military. Any help would be good. I am also thinking of putting in the Brazilian keratin again. Thank you.

Hi Desiri, I would suggest trying our hair consultation (http://www.thehairstyler.com/hair-consultations) to find styles based on your personal attributes (face shape, hair length, hair type etc) and to find styles that have the criteria that you have listed (medium or short length, bangs etc). Once you've found some styles that you like, make an appointment with your hairdresser so they can assess your hair on a personal level and give you advice about which options will benefit you and your hair. Kind regards, Serah Schuster - THS Hair Consultant.

Hair Products

Hello, I have naturally curly/wavy, frizzy, puffy hair. I don't use any hair products except for herbal essences, head and shoulders, and pantene shampoo and conditioner. What hair products do you recommend, that don't need any other work, for my type of hair?

Hi, the best advice I can give about looking after frizzy hair is that you will need a very good shampoo and conditioner for dry/frizzy treated hair (the brands you've mentioned should have products specifically designed to treat frizzy locks), a heavy treatment that can be applied to your hair once a week and a moisturizing creme that can be applied every day. Hope this helps. Kind regards, Serah Schuster - THS Hair Consultant.

General Hair Styling

Hi, two questions. First one, my hair is ridiculously frizzy and dry. I have tried loads of different products, styles and cuts but nothing seems to help. Is there anything I can do? Second question, I have dark blond really light brown colored hair and have never dyed it before. I really want to dye it bright rich orange like the girl from Paramore in their video Ignorance. I was wondering what the best thing would be to do when dying it and if I would need to bleach it and how much damage it would do in the long run. Thank you.

Hi, did you know that shampooing the hair too much can cause the hair to frizz? Try washing your hair once a week for a while to allow the natural oils coat the hair. Also, be sure to use a leave-in conditioner often to help keep the hair tangle-free and moisturized. In regards to having your hair colored, it is best you make an appointment with a hairstylist so they can assess your hair and give you the best options to achieve your desired color. Kind regards, Serah Schuster - THS Hair Consultant.

Hair Color

Hi, I'm a 25 year old girl with brown skin. I wish to get a brand new hair color. Can you suggest something? I have curly deep brown hair, with a few greys. My face is rectangular with a triangular jaw line. I would appreciate your help.

Hi, I recommend trying our hair consultation to find the right hair color for your complexion. The hair consultation can be found in the makeover menu at the top of the page. Kind regards, Serah Schuster - THS Hair Consultant.

Haircuts

Hi there! I have long, fine, straight hair and not a lot of it, and every time I go to the hairdresser they insist on layering it so that it has more volume and bounce! The only trouble is that my hair is naturally sleek and straight so the bounce goes right out of my hair the minute I walk out of the salon. What I would like to know is this: would it be better to cut my hair straight across without layering it? Or do layers serve a greater purpose other than to add volume? I've resigned myself to the fact that my hair will never have volume, so I'd like to go for the straight, sleek look. Thank you!

Hi, having layers does not mean your hair will sit perfectly with shape and volume when you wake up in the morning. With your hair being fine and sleek, you have to be willing to work with your hair and spend time styling to have it sit the way you want it to. Applying volumizing products and blow-drying the hair will help achieve body. Using hot rollers or velcro rollers will also create the bounce and body you seek. So if you have the time to dress you locks, keep your layers and have fun with them. If not, then a blunt cut with no layers will give you a straight, sleek look. I hope I have helped. Kind regards, Serah Schuster - THS Hair Consultant.

Hair

My hair is a medium texture, I had bleached my hair, I waited three weeks to perm my hair and I tested a small section of my hair with the perm, nothing happened so I permed my hair all over and when I started to comb it, it started to just break off especially at the top of my head and my edges, but when I oil it, it's okay. Now a family member said that I should get a short haircut style, but I'm worried that if I get it short, will it still break off?

Hi, unfortunately there are no miracles for undoing the damage that has already been done to your hair. The best advice I can give is that you look after your hair with plenty of intensive treatments and a shampoo and conditioner made for chemically treated hair. If you want to cut your hair shorter, you can, but until the damaged hair grows out, your hair will unfortunately continue to break. Kind regards, Serah Schuster - THS Hair Consultant.

General Hair Styling

Hi, I have curly hair about medium length and have a diamond face shape. I don't like having a lot of width on the sides of my face and would like to blow dry and use a curling iron or flat iron every other day. Would that damage my hair? Thank you. Paige

Hi Paige. Using heat protection products before and after styling your hair with a blow-dryer or curling iron should help reduce damage to your hair. However you should ask your hairstylist to take a look at your hair and offer you some specific advice as the condition of your hair will also affect the rate of damage caused by heat appliances. Kind regards, THS Hair Consultant.

I want a Cool Scene Haircut, but I have short hair what should I do?

Hi, cool scene haircuts can come in all different lengths so having short hair shouldn't make a difference. We have a great alternative range that should help give you some ideas. Check it out here: http://www.thehairstyler.com/hairstyles/alternative. Kind regards, Serah Schuster - THS Hair Consultant.

Hair Color

I have darkish brown hair with natural light highlights and I am wanting to add more blonde highlights and auburn chunks in my hair. Will it look right and is it safe to do this at home?

Hi, the best advice I can give when it comes to highlights is to seek the help of a professional. Adding highlights to hair takes great skill, especially when it comes to achieving a certain color. Your hairstylist should be able to advise if blonde and auburn highlights will suit your current brown hair color, and add them to your hair so that you get the best result. Kind regards, Serah Schuster - THS Hair Consultant.

Hairstyles

If I have fine hair, will it look OK long? Right now I have a bob, but I really want to grow my hair out to be long and pretty! I have an oval shaped face, fine hair, blueish grey eyes, fair skin, and naturally dark brown hair. In your opinion, what would look the best for me?

Hi, with an oval face shape you should be able to wear any hairstyle so something long would definitely look OK. Fine hair is also a good texture to have when it come to long hairstyles as it'll make it easier to manage the length. I recommend using our hair consultation to find styles that match your characteristics. It can be found in the makeover menu at the top of this page. Kind regards, Serah Schuster - THS Hair Consultant.

General Hair Styling

Hi! I have very thin hair and it's about to my shoulders. I want something completely different and I can't decide between cutting it to below my ears or letting it grow out and getting hair extensions to make it thicker. I also wonder about color. I have wavy texture medium length hair. My face shape is oblong. The hairdresser cut my hair with layers at the top and I want to have a new hairstyle. Could you tell me some tips on how to style my hair? And I would like to know will straight cut bangs suit me?

Hi, this article will give you tips on finding the right "wavy hairstyle" for your face shape. http://www.thehairstyler.com/features/articles/hairstyles/easy-wavy-hairstyles-for-your-face-shape. In regards to bangs, straight cut ones will suit an oblong face shape. I'm a guy looking to get a different hairstyle. I currently have medium length brown hair, and a round face. I'm looking to get a medium length hairstyle that compliments my face shape. Mostly looking for pictures of the different hairstyles, I'm having a hard time finding some myself. Also open for advice. Looking for something low maintenance.

Hairstyles

Hi, I am a 50 yr old overweight woman with a round fat face. What type of hairstyle would help make my face/body look a little thinner? Or is there such a cut? LOL.

Hi, if you would like to minimize your build, don't choose a style like full high hair, as this will make you look even larger. Also, be particularly careful when choosing wavy or curly styles as they give the illusion of "BIG." Most short style cuts are fabulous for your frame, along with most straight smooth looks. It's really just a case of looking at things logically. I recommend adding your face shape and build to our hair consultation for further ideas: http://www.thehairstyler.com/hair-consultations. Kind regards, THS Hair Consultant.

Hairstyles

Hi! I have a question. I used to have good, thick and dense hair. But after chemical treatment when I was ill with Leukosis, my hair became very thin and sparse. Could you give me any advise to return my hair? Will it help if I shave my hair bald? I hope to receive your answer. Thank you.

Hi, I wouldn't recommend shaving off your hair as this will not help your hair to grow back in a better condition. What I do suggest is taking care of your hair with good hair care products and implementing a healthy diet full of lots of good food and vegetables which will nourish your hair. Kind regards, THS Hair Consultant.
