I am a registered user but cannot see the hairstyles.
To view the library of hairstyles and colors, please make sure you have the following:
  • Your browser needs to be enabled to accept Cookies and Sessions. This is a default setting in your browser.

  • Delete the cookies from your computer and clear your browser's cache. This would help to avoid viewing the cached page.

  • Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Internet Explorer 4+, Netscape 4+ or Opera

  • Macromedia flash 6+ or above needs to be installed to view the Hairstyles. If you don't have flash 6 installed, please download and install it. It will only take a few minutes.

  • A firewall like "Zone Alarm" or "Norton Internet Security" may prevent the viewing of the hairstyles. If so, you will need to configure your firewall so it will accept cookies, flash/activeX downloads from our website addresses ("www.thehairstyler.com" and "hairstyles.virtual-hairstyles.com").

What are the Photo Specifications?
Make sure you upload a head and shoulders high quality photo of yourself that meet the following guidelines:
  • You should be looking directly at the camera against a plain white background without tilting your head.
  • Your hair should be tied back and behind your ears, so your face and ears are well exposed.
  • Your photo should be of normal size, clear, focused and well lighted.
  • Your photo should be appproximately 200 pixels x 250 pixels max.
  • Refer to the following photo.

To be able to upload your photo it needs to be in jpg, bmp, tif or gif format, which are standard and common digital photo formats.

The photo should be 2 megabytes max in size. The recommended size is between 200kb and 350kb. The photo should be at least 200 pixels wide. If your photo is too big, please try taking it or scanning it at a lower setting, or adjusting the size in a photo edit program.

If you are unable to save your photo in the correct format, please email it to photos@thehairstyler.com and we will be happy to assist you.

The better quality photo you upload, the better you will look with the different hair styles and colors!

I can't upload my photo. What should I do?
How to upload a photo to THS:
To be able to upload your photo it needs to be in jpg, bmp, tif or gif format, which are standard and common digital photo formats. The photo should be 2 megabytes max in size. The recommended size is between 200kb and 350kb, and it should be at least 200 pixels wide.

Using a digital camera or scanner, name your photo and file it under your pictures. If your photo is too big, please try taking it or scanning it at a lower setting, or adjusting the size in a photo edit program.

Login using your username and password.
1. Click on photo upload and it will take you to the next step that will read "Browse".
2. Click on "Browse" and find the file with your photo.
3. Click open and click upload photo, it will then take you to the next step. Your photo has been uploaded. Press "click here" to edit your photo and choose your face shape.

Your photo is now ready.

1. Choose a face shape, position your photo and click next.
2. Photo color and quality correction fix, click next.
Your photo settings have now been saved and you are ready to view hairstyles.

If you are having difficulties uploading your photo, please send it in attachment, specifying your username and email address, to photos@thehairstyler.com and we will upload it for you within 1 business day.

Can I upload more than one photo?
You can upload more than one photo (unlimited photos) of your family members and friends within your 3 months membership. You can replace your photo at anytime.

You can only view one photo at a time.

I have uploaded my photo but cannot see it. What should I do?
To view your photo with the hairstyles, please make sure you have the following:

    If you have a Zone Alarm firewall installed, please use the following instructions to adjust your settings:
    1) Open Zone Alarm.
    2) Click on "Privacy".
    3) In the "Main" tab, make sure the "Cookie Control" and "Ad Blocking" options are set to "Med."



    4) Click on the "Site List" tab.
    5) Add "thehairstyler.com" and make sure all of the options have a green tick.
    6) Click on "thehairstyler.com" option, right click and select "Options".



    7) Make sure that none of the boxes are ticked and press "Apply".

    8) Reload your browser.





  • Using the AOL Browser
    If you are using the America Online built-in browser, you will need to Disable Compressed Graphics, or you could experience problems with viewing your photo.

    To view your uploaded photo with TheHairStyler.com please check the following.

    Disabling Compressed Graphics in AOL Version 9.0 for the Windows Platform.
    1) Launch AOL.
    2) Click on Settings. The AOL Settings dialog window will appear.
    3) Click on Internet Properties. The AOL Internet Properties dialog window will appear.
    4) Click the AOL Browser tab.
    5) Make sure that Never compress graphics is enabled.
    6) Click the OK button to close the AOL Internet Properties dialog window.
    7) Clear the cache of your browser and refresh the page.

    1) Launch AOL.
    2) Click on Settings and select the Preferences option. The Preferences dialog window will appear.
    3) Click on Internet Properties (WWW). The AOL Internet Properties dialog window will appear.
    4) Click the Web Graphics tab.
    5) Make sure that Never compress graphics is enabled.
    6) Click the OK button to close the AOL Internet Properties dialog window.
    7) Clear the cache of your browser and refresh the page.

    2) Click on My AOL and select the Preferences option. The Preferences dialog window will appear.
    3) Click on WWW. The AOL Internet Properties dialog window will appear.

    6) Click the OK button to close the AOL Internet Properties dialog window.
    7) Clear the cache of your browser and refresh the page.

I have uploaded a new photo but still see the old photo. What should I do?
There is an internet browser setting which might keep your old photo in memory.
To see your new photo, please clear the cache (memory) from your internet browser, which is in the browser settings.

Can I save the position and color of the photo?
You can save the position, scale, color and brightness of your photo by clicking on "save" when viewing your photo in the Photo Editor.

The hairstyles and colors don't look realistic. What should I do?
The hairstyles and colors will look best and most realistic on a photo with a white background. The better quality photo you upload, the better you will look with the different hairstyles and colors.

You can modify your photo with the Photo Editor, which will add a white background to your photo, based on the faceshape you choose. The Photo Editor also allows you to correct the color, sharpness, and contrast of your photo

When viewing the hairstyles you can use the Color Tone slider to correct the color of the hairstyles.

Please make sure that your monitor is set to at least 16 bit color mode (thousands of colors) and that the contrast and brightness on your monitor is set accurately so that the colors displayed by your monitor are realistic.

Which browser do I need to view this site?
This website should be viewed with Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.0 or later, or Netscape version 4.0 or later.
Cookies, Sessions and Java should be enabled in your browser for better viewing.

The web pages are designed for monitor resolution 800x600 or above, with a minimum of 256 colors.

Will you add more styles and colors?
We add new hairstyles every month. Our database of hairstyles and colors is constantly growing.

Can the hairstyles and colors be printed on paper?
The hairstyles and colors can be printed from a normal printer. The quality of the printed styles depends on the quality of your printer.

To Print a hairstyle click on the "Print" button on the hairstyles viewer. Please note that this button is different from the Print button of your browser.

You can also Print all of your saved favourites by clicking on the "My Hair/Print" link on the left menu and then clicking on the Print button of your browser.

If you have problems printing a hairstyle, please contact us specifying the Operating system and browser you are using.

Can I email the hairstyles to my friends?
You can email the hairstyles to your friends by clicking on Email your Style when viewing the hairstyles.

Can I save the hairstyles?
You can save your favourite hairstyles and colors to your "favourites" folder by clicking on "Save Hairstyle" when viewing the hairstyles.

Can I upgrade or renew my membership? If so, how do I renew?
Yes. You can upgrade or renew your membership by clicking on the link below and choosing the desired membership type.

Can I cancel my membership? Will I be charged again? How do I cancel?
Your membership will automatically be discountinued after 3 months unless you renew.

TheHairStyler.com does not store credit card details, so you will not be charged again unless you renew your membership.

You can cancel your membership before the end of your 3 months membership by clicking on "Remove Account" from the top member menu.

How do I delete my photo?
To remove an uploaded photo you simply need to replace it with another photo or switch to using the model (if you wish to view the hairstyles without your photo). Below are instructions on how you can complete either one of these simple steps.

To switch back to the model:
1. Click on the "Hairstyle Viewer" link.
2. When the page loads, click on the drop down menu next to the text "photo type".
3. Choose "model photo" and then hit the "select" button.

To upload a new photo: (old photos will be replaced, not saved)
1. Click on "Upload Your Photo" and it will take you to the next step that will read browse.
2. Click on "browse" and find the file with your photo.
3. Click "open" and click "upload photo", it will then take you to the next step.
Your photo has been uploaded.
Press "click here" to edit your photo and choose your face shape.
Your photo is now ready.
1. Choose a face shape, position your photo and click "next".
2. Photo color and quality correction fix, click "next".
Your photo settings have now been saved and you are ready to view hairstyles.

How do I view my photo with the hairstyles?
To view your photo with the hairstyles, simply click on "HAIRSTYLES/Hairstyle Viewer" in the left hand menu.

How do I view my second/other/previously uploaded photo?
As a member of TheHairStyler.com you can change and upload as many photos as you like, however, you can only upload and view one photo at a time and the original photo will be replaced, not saved.

The hairstyles don't sit right on my photo.
If you find that some of the hairstyles do not fit your photo correctly, you can adjust your photo by using the left, right, up and down arrows located above your photo in the hairstyles window.

If you wish to edit and improve your photo, please use the photo correction feature and the positioning tool located in the "Edit Photo" area to ensure that your photo is displayed in the best possible way.

Please remember that your photo can be replaced with a better one at anytime and that we have a team who can assist you.

The hairstyle color doesn't change after I select it.
Once you have selected your color from the colors list (brown, copper etc), please click on one of the shaded boxes next to the color tone glider to see your new color.

How do I view the men's styles?
To get the men's styles to load you must make sure that a male model is selected as your default model (even when viewing with your own photo).

To select a male model:
1) Click on the "Choose a Model" link in the menu on the left hand side of the page. The model's page will then appear.
2) You will have a choice of 6 male models. Please select your choice by clicking on the tiny circle underneath each model.
3) You will then have a choice of 7 face shapes. Please make a selection using the information provided and then click on the tiny circle underneath your chosen shape.
4) Choose your eye color by clicking the correct circle.
5) Choose your default hair color by using the drop down menu.
6) Click on the "Choose" button.
The page will then reload to your member home page. To view your chosen model and the male hairstyles, click on the "Hairstyles/Hairstyle Viewer" link in the menu on the left.

How do I view the women's styles?
To get the women's styles to load you must make sure that a female model is selected as your default model (even when viewing with your own photo).

How do I switch to using the model instead of my photo?
To switch to the model simply click on the "Hairstyles/Hairstyle Viewer" link, and when the page loads, click on the drop down menu next to the text "photo type" and choose "model photo" and then hit the "select" button.

A login message says that my membership has expired, but it hasn't.
If you receive an expiration message and your account has not expired, please make sure that you have correctly entered your current username and password and that you have not logged into an old, previous account.

If you know that you are in the right account then it's likely that your browser is loading an old page. To correct the problem, please clear your browser's cache by using the following instructions.

Open your internet browser and:
1. Click on tools.
2. Click on internet options.
3. Delete files then click ok.
4. Close down your browser.
5. Open your browser again, go to TheHairStyler.com and log in.

How do I change my details?
To change your username, password or email address, please click on the "Your Details" link in the top "Members" menu. Here you will find all of your details which can be changed as often as you like. Please edit the details that you would like to change and then click "Update Details".

How do I view my favorites?
To view your favorites please click on the "My Hair/Favorites" link in the menu on the left hand side.

You can Use your mobile phone to show your favorites to family, friends and your hairstylist by logging onto http://www.thehairstyler.com/mobile/ via your phone's internet browser.

It's a great way to get an instant opinion or to decide on your new hairstyle from anywhere at anytime.

My favorites have not saved. What I am doing wrong?
If your saved styles have not appeared in your "Favorites" folder, please make sure that when you are saving your favorites that you wait for the "save hairstyle" button to finish saying "please wait". When the style has been saved the button will say "saved to fav" briefly before returning to the "save hairstyle" text.

My favorites are showing the wrong photo.
If you have recently uploaded a different photo or the photo in your favorites folder appears incorrect, please use the following instructions to clear your browser's cache so that it is not loading an old page.

Open your internet browser and:
1. Click on tools.
2. Click on internet options.
3. Delete files then click ok.
4. Close down your browser.
5. Open your browser again, go to TheHairStyler.com and log in.

My favorites won't print.
The printing function requires a new window to open. If you are having trouble, please check to make sure that your internet browser is not set to block pop-ups. Here are some instructions on how to enable our website to allow pop-ups:

Open your browser and go to:
1. Tools.
2. Pop up blocker.
3. Pop up blocker settings.
4. Add TheHairStyler.com to the sites that you allow pop ups from.
Next - clear your cache:
1. Click on tools.
2. Click on internet options.
3. Delete files then click ok.
4. Click on the refresh button.

Once you have followed the above steps, please try to print the styles again. If you still can't print the hairstyles after allowing pop-ups, please use the following instructions to adjust your firewall.

1. Click on tools.
2. Click on Internet Options.
3. Click on the security tab and press the 'default' setting button.
4. Click on privacy tab and press the 'default' setting button.

How do I save the favorites to my computer?
Favorites
To save a favorite hairstyle to your computer right click on the hairstyle and then click on "Save picture as".

Archived Favorites
At TheHairStyler.com you can save your archived favorites and the hairstyles to your computer via two methods.

1 - Email The Hairstyles To Yourself:
1) Click on "Hairstyles/Hairstyle Viewer" in the menu on the left hand side.
2) Click on the "Email your style" button located underneath the thumbnails box once the hairstyles load in your browser window.
3) Fill in your details.
4) Click "Email your style". The email link requires a pop up window so please make sure that your browser allows pop ups from our website or that you do not have a pop up blocker on while trying to email the styles.

2 - Save The Hairstyles From The Email Window:
1) Find the style that you want to email.
2) Click on "Email your style".
3) When the pop up window loads, right click on the preview image to your right and click "Save picture as".
4) Save your picture to your computer.

How many favorites can I save to my account?
At TheHairStyler.com you can save 30 favorites in total to your account. If you have reached your maximum and you wish to save more, please delete any unwanted favorites before saving new ones.

When I press email nothing happens. What do I do?

How do I add hairstyles to the My Hair - Your Say feature?
You can add styles to the "My Hair - Your Say" feature by:

1) Clicking on the "My Hair/Favorites" link in the left hand side menu.
2) Ticking the 'My Hair - Your Say' box (a tick will appear in the box).
3) Clicking on the 'Add/Update To My Hair' button.

Only two styles can be saved at a time.

How do I remove hairstyles from the My Hair - Your Say feature?
You can remove styles from the "My Hair - Your Say" feature by:

1) Clicking on the "My Hair/Favorites" link in the left hand side menu.
2) Find the favorites that you currently have added to the "My Hair – Your Say" feature and click on the "Remove From My Hair Your Say" link underneath each picture.

How do I view the comments and ratings left for me?
To read the comments for your styles in the "My Hair - Your Say" feature, please click on the "My Hair/Favorites" link in the menu on the left. A page will then load which will show your saved styles, and all you need to do is click on each picture to read the comments and ratings that have been left for you.

I do not like some of the comments left for me. What can I do about it?
If you are unhappy with any comments that are posted to the "My Hair – Your Say" feature then you can delete the comments by following these easy steps:

1) Click on the "My Hair/Favorites" link in the menu on the left.
2) Click on the picture of your style that is currently added to "My Hair – Your Say" feature.
3) Find the comment that you wish to remove and press "delete" to remove it from the "My Hair – Your Say" feature.
