Jeannie Mai Long Straight Dark Brunette Updo Hairstyle with Blonde Highlights

Added: 16 May 2016
The lengths of this highlighted 'do are curled and combed through, and left out to fall over one shoulder for an elegant and sophisticated look and feel. This hairstyle is easy to manage with regular trims every 4-6 weeks and needs a small amount of product to tame fly-away hair.

Jeannie Mai flaunts a gorgeous vintage ‘do here that gives her look an dramatic finish. Jeannie has naturally thick hair with a straight texture to it that benefits from the large curls throughout the ends. This hairstyle adds body and volume all over and gives her locks a glossy finish. Jeannie has a round face shape and striking facial features which both look great with this silky ‘do. Her cheekbones and eyes are emphasized by her side-swept fringe nicely and the rest of the hair creates a voluminous frame for her face. This hairstyle works brilliantly for formal occasions.

Jeannie has naturally black hair and dark eyes along with an ivory complexion. Although she suits dark hair well, she can pull off these dark blonde highlights with ease. Here, she has gone for wheat blonde highlights throughout the lengths and ends. This color gives her complexion a soft glow and highlights her eyes even more.

Jeannie Mai is an American hostess, fashion expert and TV personality. She is most known as the host of the Style Network series How Do I Look?, and USA's Character Fantasy.

step 1

Hold the gel spray no closer than 3 inches from your hair and then evenly mist the gel spray into the roots to create a stronger hold style. Gel spray will hold well and will not look wet or weigh the hair down. Using your gel spray in this fashion will create added hold and a longer lasting style.

step 2

Using the corner of your comb and standing in front of a mirror find the middle of your right eye and then drag the comb straight up slowly until you reach your hairline and then continue back in a straight manner to achieve an even right part. A side part is great for longer face shapes because it creates the illusion of width.

step 3

A paddle brush is used for detangling the hair and can be used to smooth out straight hair when blow-drying or styling. It is a must have for every household.

step 4

Working in sections starting from the back, place the paddle brush close to the roots and drag it through the strands slowly, taking care not to overheat your hair. Once dry, continue to a new section, completing the back, the sides and then the top section last of all.

step 5

Take a section of hair no wider than the diameter of the velcro roller and comb it through to ensure there are no knots. Place the roller at the ends of the section of hair, being sure to smooth the ends under, and then twist the roller down the hair shaft to the roots. Continue applying the velcro rollers all the way through the entire hair for a full volume finish throughout the sides. Keep the rollers in your hair for approximately 20 minutes.

step 6

Apply moulding cream to your fingertips then gently rake through your bangs, sweeping the hair to the left as you go. Be careful not to use too much product as it can become sticky and clumpy.

step 7

Using a small amount of moulding cream, work it through the mid-lengths and ends in a downward motion. For added texture, pinch the ends as you go sparingly.

step 8

Apply a small amount of moulding cream to your fingertips, then place it at the roots above your ear and drag it through as you pull your hair behind your ear.
