Added: 05 Mar 2017
These blonde locks are styled to the back of the head while the top has been backcombed and lifted high for a voluminous finish. This fancy 'do is best suited to complement an oval face. This look can be re-created at home with the right tools and needs product for shine and hold.

Nicky Whelan goes for an eye-catching hairstyle here that is ideal for a formal night out. Nicky has an oval face shape and a wide, high forehead that looks great with most hairdos, especially up-dos like this one. Her medium-fine tresses have been teased to create maximum volume at the crown of the head and front hairline while the rest of her locks have been smoothed to the back. Overall, this hairstyle works well for her face shape and high forehead, and makes the most of her hair length.

Nicky is a natural dark ash blonde and looks best in shades of medium to light blonde, thanks to her warm skin tone and bright blue eyes. This particular shade of blonde has golden undertones to it that gives her strands a glossy finish. Her roots have grown out a couple of inches which creates a gorgeous two-tone look which gives her tresses extra edge and style.

Nicky Whelan is an Australian actress and model best known for her role as Pepper Steiger in the Australian soap opera Neighbours.

step 1

Apply styling mousse to damp hair, using your palm as a measuring guide, and evenly distribute it along the hair shaft. Styling mousse will add hold and can help achieve better results.

step 2

A medium radial brush is used on medium to long hair types to smooth out wavy or curly hair textures or to add body to straight hair. When selecting a radial brush, always use one with a pure bristle as this will not tear or damage the hair.

step 3

To blow-dry the crown/top sections, take a section of hair no bigger than the diameter of the brush and blow-dry the hair placing the brush under the section of hair. With your blow-dryer in front of the brush, follow the brush in an upwards direction at the roots and an outwards position at the ends for volume and softness. Continue until the section is dry.

step 4

Starting just above the crown take a section of your hair that is the same diameter as the brush. Place your brush underneath and at the roots of your section and then with your blow-dryer in front, drag the brush up and then turn it under when you reach the ends.

step 5

Pick up a small selection of hair from your mid section no bigger than your tail comb. Place your comb at the roots and then comb up and down until the hair is standing up by itself. Continue to the crown and finish at the sides. Repeat this step if you require more volume.

step 6

Apply a small amount of gel to your fingertips, then place it at the roots above your ear and drag it through as you pull your hair behind your ear.

step 7

Apply some some gel to your fingertips and then pull through the ends of your hair in a downward motion to achieve a sculptured look.

step 8

To finish, apply a minimal amount of hairspray from an arms length distance to the top, sides and back. Take care not to use too much or you will end up with a white, flaky residue which looks like dandruff.
