Viewer Trend Report- May 2014
By Jessica on 19 June 2014
We count down the top tried on hairstyles for May 2014.
It's that time again! Time to check out the most popular hairstyles of the month, as chosen by you. This year we started out with short and sensible hairstyles being the favoured looks, however as we moved closer to spring, the ladies out there seemed to be favouring the fun, flirty and feminine looks a bit more. And of course, hair icon Lisa Rinna has showed up in many months' top 5 looks since the beginning of the year—is anyone surprised? It seems that no matter what is in vogue at the moment, Rinna's short and sassy 'dos are always a favourite. So, did she make it to the May top 5? Let's check them out now and find out!
In the fifth position is the lovely Jenna Elfman, who was also in the April top five. It's no wonder this cute bouncy bob made it back again—this is the ultimate short hairstyle for spring and summer. With loose beachy waves and lots of volume throughout, this hairstyle looks just as good on the beach as it does for a night out on the town. To get this look, ask your stylist for a layered chin length bob. You can wear it straight too of course, but the funky waves make it so much more fun! Use a small barrelled curling wand to curl sections of different thicknesses for best results—this 'do is all about looking effortlessly cool!
In the number four spot is Yolanda H. Foster and her chic graduated blonde bob. This is a simple yet elegant hairstyle that is perfect for women with fine hair. To get this look, ask your stylist for a graduated bob that angles down past the chin, with some slight layering in the ends to give it a nice rounded silhouette. Yolanda is rocking a cool side swept fringe but this hairstyle would also look good with a grown-out fringe or, if your face shape suits it, a bold and blunt straight across fringe. Yolanda is also sporting one of the hottest colours for 2014—icy white blonde. This is achieved best on natural blondes but a great colorist can make it work on naturally dark hair as well.
In the number three spot is another hair icon in her own right, Halle Berry. For years, Halle has worn her signature short and messy 'do, and for years women everywhere have copied it. Why fix it if it 'aint broke, right? This seems to be Halle's motto as she is flaunting her signature cut here and looking fabulous doing it. Halle has modified her color to a rich mocha brown, which looks gorgeous with her skin tone, and has added a bit more structure around the face with flipped out ends. This is a great option for women who prefer short cuts that bring all of the attention to the face.
Debby Boon comes it at number two with her cute layered blonde hairstyle. Debby looks radiant in this tapered cut that leaves a lot of length on top with some face framing pieces around the front. The back and sides are tapered, framing the face nicely and showing off her neck and shoulders. Debby has added extra glam factor by creating a deep side fringe and sweeping her fringe over for a sexy peek-a-boo effect.
And finally, in the top position this month is our model's choppy short 'do! This is a cool cut that will suit those who like to look edgy and fashion forward. This hairstyle is the perfect option for women with straight hair that is medium to thick. To get this look, ask your stylist for a short cut that is a uniform length all over with heavy layering throughout. Pay special attention to the sides and temple areas where a nice frame has been created through layering. This is one hairdo that will let you beat the summer heat in style!
Well, there you have it! It seems that short hairstyles are still the viewer's favorites. But will they continue to come out on top in June? Check back next month to find out!
