Sue has told us that she's after a relatively modern look which is flattering to her face shape and not overpowering to her small features. She wants a style that is very low maintenance because she lives an active lifestyle and would like to keep her new look as natural as possible without a lot of color or products required. We've taken three of Sue's favorite styles and suggested three of our own.

1. Sue's Choice: Straight Short

Sue hairstyles number 1

Suitable for:

Face Shapes: oval, oblong, square, diamond, triangular
Hair Texture: fine, medium
Hair Density: medium, coarse

Styling:

Maintenance: low
Time: 5-10 mins
Techniques: blow-dry
Products: mousse, wax

Hair Consultant:

I like this hairstyle choice from Sue. First of all, the shape is correct in how it minimizes length to her diamond face shape through the jagged forward falling bangs, which are at a length that should not annoy her. The side part also helps to make Sue's face appear wider while the textured top area adds more character and helps to bring the hairstyle to life. Styling is quick and easy with the hair falling into its own position with minimal products required. I think that the color could be more exciting. The blonde highlights are excellent and an essential factor providing texture to what would otherwise be an average hairstyle.

Verdict:

A very good choice of hairstyle by Sue. I think that the base color needs to be brighter and more exciting.

Color Suggestion

Sue hairstyles number 2

Copper: Sure it's bright but the color really brings this style to life. This particular copper tone has just enough blue in it to make Sue's eyes stand out, look bluer and much brighter. Sue would have to consider ongoing color maintenance here but I believe that it would be worth it.

2. Sue's Choice: Straight Short

Hair Texture: fine, medium, coarse
Hair Density: medium, coarse

I think that Sue has made the right choice about the shape of this hairstyle as it will suit her longer face shape. I do, however, feel that the bangs are just too long and will ultimately annoy her by falling into her eyes and on her glasses. I do like the fact that the nature of the cut being textured and chipped through the ends will help Sue's hair to just fall into place, maintaining its shape all day long. This look requires very little styling effort and maintenance. I'm not crazy on the color and this that it is reasonably boring, even with the highlighted ends. I would like a shorter bang and also more lighter tips all over.

Verdict:

Not a bad hairstyle choice, just not that fabulous or exciting!

3. Sue's Choice: Straight Short

Sue hairstyles number 3

Suitable for:

Face Shapes: oval, oblong, square, diamond
Hair Texture: medium, thick
Hair Density: medium, dense

Styling:

Maintenance: medium
Time: 20-30 mins
Techniques: blow-dry
Products: mousse, wax, spray gel

Hair Consultant:

Once again I think that Sue has got the general idea right about this hairstyle. It provides width and body through the back and sides to balance out her diamond face shape. The wispy ends along with the graduated layers create a textured result that really works with Sue's facial features. My problem is the bangs; they are far too long and not only do they fall and cover Sue's eyes, they also hide a large portion of her face. Cutting the bangs shorter would fix this problem but create a new one where the shape of the cut would become too wide making Sue's jawbone appear larger and her face look very short. The color is okay, but not really exciting. Blonder highlights would be a good option and would suit Sue's fair to light complexion.

Verdict:

The bangs are the problem. Not an ideal hairstyle for everyday use.

4. Hair Consultant's Choice: Mandy Moore

Sue hairstyles number 4

Suitable for:

Face Shapes: oval, oblong, square, heart, triangular
Hair Texture: thin, medium
Hair Density: sparse, medium

Styling:

Maintenance: medium
Time: 10-20 mins
Techniques: blow-dry
Products: wax, sculpture lotion, hair spray

I think that this tailored hairstyle looks great on Sue. I really like the fact that it doesn't hide and suffocate her small facial features. The back area is layer cut to sit softly on the neck, while the chin length sides are also layered and then tucked in behind the ears, showing off Sue's great cheek bone structure as well as providing needed width through the sides of her face. The top area is left heavy allowing the hair to simply fall into place with side swept bangs sitting nicely that can also be pinned into place. I think that the mocha brown color with honey highlights is a nice change for Sue, away form the blondes. It really makes her eyes stand out while her blemish free skin allows her get away with it. Styling is also nice and easy.

Verdict:

This hairstyle would be a nice change for Sue. The darker color really works for her.

5. Hair Consultant's Choice: Sharon Stone

Sue hairstyles number 5

Suitable for:

Face Shapes: oval, round, square, heart, diamond, triangular
Hair Texture: thin, medium
Hair Density: medium, dense

Styling:

Maintenance: low
Time: 5-10 mins
Techniques: blow-dry
Products: mousse, moulding cream

Hair Consultant:

It seems that all of Sue's choices have so far been very flat or top heavy cuts. I think that she should consider this razored/chipped hairstyle that truly gives her a lift. This look doesn't sit too high, it's more the ruffled texture that allows light to pass through it that makes it appear full. The color is good for Sue's fair complexion with the blonde highlights complimenting the objective of the cut, texture! Styling maintenance is quick and easy and is perfect for when Sue goes from the gym back to the office.

Verdict:

I really like this hairstyle on Sue. It's got good shape, texture and color and is one that she should definitely consider.

6. Hair Consultant's Choice: Kristen Bell

Sue hairstyles number 6

Suitable for:

Face Shapes: oval, oblong, square, heart, diamond
Hair Texture: thin, medium
Hair Density: sparse, medium

Styling:

Maintenance: medium
Time: 10-20 mins
Techniques: blow-dry
Products: smoothing shine, lacquer

Hair Consultant:

I really love the look of this hairstyle on Sue. For a start, the wispy ends allow the hair to fall into their own shape in a casual and soft way adding hair where Sue needs it most - through the sides. The bangs simply fall across the style helping to frame Sue's face while staying away and out of her eyes. The sides are not too bulky and therefore will not hide and cover up her face, and she could pull them behind her ears to change the look if she wants. For best results, Sue should blow-dry this style, but once again, this type of cut is really self styling. The blonde color really looks great on Sue's fair to light complexion. The blonde highlighted areas also add that certain dimension and texture that this style oozes.

Verdict:

My pick and favorite. I love this particular length, shape, and color on Sue.
