To get clean hair we use shampoo. To get soft, manageable hair, we use conditioner!

Hair conditioner works for your locks in a similar way to fabric conditioner for your clothes. It coats the cuticle of your hair, making it nice and soft, but it can only repair hair damage cosmetically. If you go overboard with conditioner then it will give you greasy hair, but when used right, hair conditioner is a really great product - as these hair product tips show...

Hair Product Tips: Conditioner

Conditioner When it comes to using conditioner, an even application makes all the difference. After applying your conditioner, use a wide tooth comb to ensure it is distributed evenly throughout your hair.

Conditioner can be used to stop fly-away hair by adding a moisturizing variety through the mid-lengths and ends, and then some smoothing shine through your locks before your hair dries. After your hair has dried, use some more serum to tame the strands as necessary.

If you suffer from hair frizz then try using a leave in conditioner to keep your locks inline.

If split ends are an issue for you then you can help prevent and temporarily treat them with a strengthening conditioner until your hair can be trimmed and the split end taken off.

You’ll get the most benefit from conditioner by applying it to your mid-lengths and ends only. This ensures that your hair gets the treatment where it needs it, and your roots don’t get weighed down by too much hair product.

If you use heavy conditioners regularly then make sure to use a clarifying shampoo once a week to detox your locks and remove the build up of residue that gets left in your hair.

Model with long brown wavy hair If your hair is particularly knotty then spray in a leave-in conditioner and then use a comb to work from the ends of your hair up to your roots to remove the knots as gently as possible.

Remember to use a conditioner every time you shampoo. For thin or fine hair, a spray in conditioner or a light formulation is ideal. If your hair is thick, or requires lots of hydration, then an intensive conditioner followed by some leave-in conditioner may be required.

If you’re looking to get the most out of your conditioner by leaving it on for as long as possible then save your time. Conditioners will not give any extra nourishment after 30 minutes, so leaving them on for a long as possible is not necessary. If you want a deeper hair treatment then use a conditioner or hair mask that is designed to give your locks some intensive nourishment.

If you have dry hair and want to avoid drying it out further then look for conditioners that don’t contain any alcohol.

Bleached hair requires lots of TLC, so if you have bleach in your locks then applying an intensive conditioner once a week is a must! It will keep your locks hydrated and your hair healthy.

We hope these tips will help you to make the most out of your conditioner the next time you wash your hair.
